MODEL ONITED NATIONS Despite the Great Contaminated Candy Disaster in December, the Model United Nations raised enough money through candy sales to attend the California statewide conference in March. Representing two countries, the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic and the People ' s Democratic Republic of Laos, the Berkeley High delegates arrived at the conference determined to stamp out Capitalism, Imperialism, and Southern California ' s Huntington Beach High School. Topics including South Africa and Apartheid, the Middle East, International migration, and Information Exchange made for an exciting time. After three days of caucusing, ammending, speeches, and assassinations (not to mention large amounts of coffee and donuts), the delegates returned intact and ready for next year, we hope. 1. NATURE AND CONSERVATION The Nature and Conservation Club is and that in these days of declining morals and ascendance of Japanese imports is quite an accomplishment. As to the activities of the club they are frankly subversive. Thus all members of the club belong to the Explorer Scouts. This move was dictated by the financial irresponsibility of God who would not pay our fieldtrip in- surance. The shouts do. The club spends its time polluting natural environments from the Sierra to the beaches. IT IS FUN! ! ! ! ! ! 1. For those of you who thought Mr. Panasenko unphotogenic. 2. That ' s a compass, see. 3. The Wood Gatherers. 4. Waiting for a tree to grow. 5. Something ' s got to be funny. t

D.C CLOSE DP Donning their coats, the B.H.S. Close Up participants caught their first glimpse of snowy D.C. While students in Berkeley were taking advantage of the first good tanning weather, the traveUing students were visiting the snowy Arlington Cemetery and the sombering Vietnam Memorial. Thanks to Suzzane Packard, a B.H.S. junior currently a page, many students were lucky enough to visit the House floor and all were able to see the Senate (where are the Senators?) in action. Students also visited the Smithsonian (the shops) and visited foreign Embassies. Tears were shead at Friday ' s banquet (over the food, or what?) and that night, students tried to boogie (in togas - and then out) to such favorites as Celebration (but ser- iously folks, it wasn ' t that bad). The undisputed highlight was, however, seeing Mr. Houck hanging from the chande- liers. Thanks to all those participating, and also to Mother Nature (snowball fight), the Marriot (for logical room num- bers), Domino ' s Pizza, Jenny ' s busboy, removable window screens, F, S, J.C. (shut that mouth), and M D. ■4 4
