CLASS-Y OFFICERS This fall the senior, junior, sopho- more, and freshman class officers had little free time. The seniors found themselves especially busy. This group of officers is the largest BHS has ever had. The semester was a very long and difficult one, according to Danny Williams. The entire class came toge- ther and worked very hard during Spirit Week refurbishing and painting the bleachers, and won the Spirit Cup in a close race. Another important issue on the minds of all seniors is where to go on the senior trip. The junior class was led again this fall by popular three term Co-presidents Collin Doran and Maurice Lee. One objective of the fall semester was to try and bring more unity to the junior class. To do this they formed clean-up, skit, rally and float commit- tees with a larger group of juniors showing up than ever before. The juniors earned enough points during Spirit Week to finish second to the seniors in the Spirit Cup competition. The sophomore class officers had meet- ings every Wednesday and Friday, and during this time organized fundraisers, including bakesales, to raise money for the class. The sophomores worked hard during Spirit Week getting people toge- ther for clean-up and the skit. Ms. Ben- nett would like to acknowledge the wonderful work of the freshman class officers. She was very proud of the job they did during Spirit Week and at the rally. Although a group picture was not taken, they were: Co-presidents Troy Holland and Andres Alvarez, Vice-pres- ident Dike Ahanotu, Social secretary Geoff Martin, Secretary Rebecca Thaler and Treasurer Sean McClelland. --FALL SENATE-- Have you ever wondered just who those people are who get up and rap on stage to get your votes twice a year? These are the candidates for Student Senate, a group of eight de- signed to represent the student body. The Senate is elected each semester by BHS students. In addition to a appointing the Student Council president and vice president, the Senate does its best to deal with the different problems that face Berkeley High. Some of the issues addressed this fall were the attendance and hall pass policies, the teachers ' contract ne- gotiations, and the enormous deficit that was confronting the Berkeley School District. Senate members also attended a School Board meeting defending Berkeley High ' s self-sche- duling process. However, President Helena Hansen feels that the Senate could get even more accomplished with added input from BHS students, and is organizing the first open forum, to be held in the courtyard, so that students may actually participate in a Senate meeting. Although the members of the Student Senate have begun working very hard this semester with many new ideas, one question burns in everyone ' s mind: Where the heck is that toilet paper you promised us? 1. An unidentifiable hand casts the deciding vote 2. Here ' s the church, here ' s the steeple... 3. There ' s a WHAT crawling up my back? 4. Back Row: Jason Lustig, Michael Wilson, Troy Holland, Helena Hansen, Duru Ahanotu, Maurice Lee, Bill Caldeira. Front Row: Jen Bilik, Katy Orenstein. THE AYES HAVE
