The 1969-1970 Ran - gers football season ended in a disappointing 1--10 record. The Rangers’ only win of theseason came at home against Cairo 26--6. The Rangers started their gridiron campaign at Sparta where the Ran- gers lost not only the game but also Sr. quarterback John Kasky and star half- back Roger Adkins. Ad- kins received a knee in- jury that kept him side- lined the remainder of the season. Injuries were very prevalent during the sea- son and were a main cause of the poor record. The Rangers hosted Metropolis at home the second game of the sea- son. They played one of their better games of the season but fell short 14-- 12. The Rangers' next two home encounters ended in a lossto Marionand a win against Cairo. Traveling to Herrin the Rangers won every phase of statistics except the fi- nal score which fell in Herrin's favor 12--0. The Rangers traveled to Cen- tralia where they were easily defeated by the Orphans. The Rangers' next bat- tle was against Mt. Ver- non. They played a good game against the visiting Rams butstill suffered de- feat 28--7. The Rangers continued to play good football for the remainder of the sea- son but still could not find victory. The Rangers ended the season with lossesto Carbondale, Har- risburg, Johnston City, and West Frankfort. Although the Rangers ended with a losing rec- ord, the season could not be called a loss. The Ran- gers possessed every qual- ity of a traditional hard- hitting team, which gave the fans many exciting moments. 24
