CLASS HISTORY In july 1937 the school lrfe of the present class began Nnnety three boys and grrls were enrolled wnth Mrs Lydia Grnffen and Mrs Benton as teachers As we passed through our prrmary and grammar grades our number at tnmes xncreased and at other trmes greatly decreased We had as our teachers Mrss Helen Scochner Mrs E Rnce Pressley rn the second grade Mrs Thurmond Benton Mrs Clyde Helms nn the thrrd grade Mrs Mary C McGee Carter Mrss Pat Benton In the fourth grade Mrs james Morgan Mrss Lucy Lee rn the fnfth grade Mrs W A Ingram Mr Pete Helms Mrs Wnllre Fuller rn the srxth grade and Mrs Tom Grrbble rn the seventh grade The tnme fmally came when we changed from lollrpops to lrpstrck We had reached the erghth grade with an enrollment of forty two Mlss Mary Frances Helms served as our sponsor When we entered high school we were dellghted to be able to change classes to have different teachers and to have the prrvrlege of partxclpatrng In vanous actlvmes Durmg the year a chapter of the Nanonal Beta Club was organnzed Mxss Anme Mae Flowe served as sponsor A number from our class became elngtble for membershnp At the begrnnnng of our sophomore year we were twenty seven m number The late Mr Newby Crowell was our home room teacher We contmued our usual actrvrtxes Our junior year wnth Mrss Norma Moore was a very actlve one We assnsted the senrors m the presentatlon of therr program Dxckens A Chnstmas Carol and thenr Class Day exercxses Isle of Our Dreams We successfully presented a three act comedy No Bride for the Groom Wnth the proceeds we on May 1 1948 gave a formal banquet for the seniors at the Monroe Hotel Followlng the banquet we went to the Country Club for dancing Several addrtnonal members were mrtlated mto the Beta Club Rachel Tsrtourrs by request of the National Office offered the mvocatnon at the opemng of the State Conventnon rn Ralergh Late rn September we began the last year of our publnc school lrfe Our number mcluded eighteen grrls and four boys Mnss Annne Mae Flowe has served as our class sponsor Naturally we have had a busy year wnth actxvntles rangrng from parntrng our class room to formal programs Many of the leaders of the hugh school orgamzatrons have come from our class Dons Grrffm charrman of the Gymnasium Councrl Bobble jean Surratt and johnny Sutton Student Councrl Boots Helms Audrey Wrl lramson Rachel Tsltourns Dons Grrffrn Mary Ann Leonard Bobbxe jean Surratt Cheerleaders Boots Helms Teenage Reporter We have enjoyed numerous class partres Mnss Flowe entertanned for us at her home rn Mxnt Hall durrng the Halloween season From trme to txme we have held our partres rn the Home Economrcs Cottage and rn homes of the members As the year draws to a close we antrcrpate wrth pleasure the presentation of our Senior Play and a serxes of commencement programs Then we hope to take an educational tour probably to XVash1ngton After graduatlon we shall enter the world wrth our motto as our gunde- Our Arm Success Our Hope to Wm AUDREY WILLIAMSON Hlstorxan 1 1 ' . - 1 ' .
