BENTON HARBOR Bl FLINT CENTRAL 58
"Blessed is he that iumpeth the highest, tor he shall
get the ball." This Tiger proverb was put to good use
at Lansing as Central had no answer for the rebounding
powers of the Tiger tront line. At the end ot an ulcer-
producing tirst halt, Harbor had an extremely shaky
32-30 lead, but opened a second halt stearnroller that
saw 49 Tiger points stutted through the hoop to set a
new semi-final record. Flint, the fastest tearn in the
state, tell as the Tigers hit 5421 in the second halt and
proved themselves to be iust as fast. Chester was al-
most unstoppable as he hit 28 points in addition to
capturing 24 rebounds. Duane played his best and
highest scoring game of the season as he swished 24.
Ron, after a loasketless first halt tallied l3, followed by
Mickey and George with 8 and 7.

BENTON HARBOR 68 AUSTIN 71
"Often a bridesmaid, never a bride," this seems to
be Benton Harbor's fate as, for the third time in four
years, the Tigers made the long trek to Lansing only
to return with no better than a runner-up trophy. Nerv-
ousness, a disease that never before plagued the Tigers,
seemed to trouble them as the first quarter was almost
complete before they got started. After trailing by 6 at
halftime, the Tigers gained the lead in the third frame,
but lost it early in the last quarter, something that never
before happened all season. The outcome could have
been very different had it not been for some missed
free throws in the last 2 minutes but still they came from
IO points back to lose by a mere 3. Chester Walker, in
spite of the fact that he seemed very tired, demonstrated
his all-state ability by stuffing in 25 in spite of being
guarded by DeBusschere, Austin's all-state center. Ron
Lange, who suffered a slight scoring slump in the
semi's, swished through l9, While Duane Dunbar con-
tributed l2 points plus plenty of fight. Although Peap-
ples got only 3, his spirit was largely responsible for
a fourth quarter rally that almost made it. After the
most heartbreaking defeat of the year, the Tigers
proved they deserved their reputation for good sports-
manship by being the first to congratulate Austin.
