BENTON HARBOR 65 NILES 25
The Tigers went through the formality of capturing
their first district "A" championship in history as they
rolled over a diligently stalling Niles. As the balance
scoring indicates, the team looked very well prepared
for the long tournament grind. Walker and Lange hit
for l7 apiece, Dunbar tallied ll, while Yarbrough and
Peapples totaled 7 each. Senior reserves Wightman and
Biggart outscored the Vikings in the closing minutes
as they hit a basket each.
BENTON HARBOR 60 KAZOO 48
In losing to BHHS, the Maroons demonstrated very
nicely that a team must shoot to win. Kazoo shot only
8 times in the entire first half. Balanced scoring was
again the rule as each player, at one time during the
contest, filled a starring role. Chet again led the scoring
with 18, but was closely followed by Ron, with l6,
Duane with 14, Micky with 9, and George with 3 plus
his usual excellent floor game. Kazoo changed tactics
the fourth quarter resulting in a total of 46 points be-
ing scored by both teams.
BENTON HARBOR 70 G.R.C. 67
With 7 minutes left in the regional championship and
trailing by 8 points, Tiger fans ithose who could still
talkl were praying for a miracle. lt came in the form of
five players who didn't intend to lose. With a calmness
unsurpassed the Tigers relentlessly chopped away at
Christians' lead and went ahead to stay with l:l3 left to
play. Chet Walker's terrific play contributed immensely
to that Tiger victory as he scored 34 points despite the
3-man guard Christian placed on him. Eleven of these
came, where they were most needed, in the hectic
last quarter. Ron and Duane ably assisted Chester with
l6 and lO respectively.
