Basketball FRONT ROW Left to Right John witt, Eugene Hawkins, Gary Flynn, Dean Johns, James Hawkins, Edward Gray K ROW 'Jerryn Gottsch, Lavern Logeman, HTomn Flynn, Ed Williamson, nChucku Witte, Gene Cloudt, Mr. Reese The 1955 56 basketball season started on October 17 when 16 boys reported The lettermen who were back were HTomu Flynn, nd Williamson, Jerry Gottsch, Chuck witte, and Eugene Hawkins These five made up the first team Promis ng material were Gary Flynn, Edward Gray, John witt, Dean Johns, nPeteU Cloudt, and Lavern Logeman All finished the season but Eugene aickq Malvin Witt, and Don Witt The Badgers played 23 games of which they won lh and lost 9 They played two conferences which were the E C N C and the E N ton In the first round Bennington beat Herman by a good margin Bennington was defeated by Fort Calhoun by 3 points in the second round In the finals Bennington took third place easily from Arlington February 1, 2, and 3 were the dates of the E N C Tournament at Elkhorn Bennington trounced Gretna in the first round On the second night Bennington gave all they had but still lost to hlkhorn In the finals Bennington won over Arling ton for another third place over with ship good In the Distr1ct Tournament at Dana College, Blair, Nebraska, the Badger: won N S D in the first round Springfield pushed ahead and won over Bennington the score 21 17 on the second night Sprlngfield took the Listrict Champion L A Y E V I E Tom Flynn, a senior who nad a good Jump shot and also a good set shot, was a rebounder and played forward Nadu W1lllHmSOH, a senlor, was a good rebounder and played cen er navern Logeman, a senior, was a very good center on the second team He had a goom Jump shot 'Jerryn Gottsch, a senior, played guard, was a good rebounder, and was a good playmaker John Witt, a junior, was a good forward for the second team and a good substi tute for the first team - - I 1 ll ll - I1 '1 II ll ll .
