ta- l Executive llicer dr. Wm. M. Callaghan Cdr. William M. Callaghan, Jr., was grad- uated from the U.S. Naval Academy in June 1949, and one year later underwent flight train. ing at the Naval Air Station at Pensacola. His first two air assignments following graduation was VS-831 and VS-36. He attended the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, California for one year and then, continued his pogf. graduate studies in aeronautical engineering from 1956 to 1958 at the College of Aeronautics in Cranfield, England. Cdr. Callaghan came to BENNINGTON on July 26, 1968, as Operations Officer, and shortly thereafter became Executive Officer.

ASW GRU Radm Norman C. Gillette Rear Admiral Norman C. Gillette, Jr,, presently serving as Commander Anti-Sub. marine Warfare Group Three, reported to this billet from a tour as Chief, U.S. Military Group in Spain. Radm Gillette came aboard BENN with ASW GRU 3 in June and moved to the HORN ET CCVS-121 with the Group in September when BENN received word of decommissioning. Radm Gillette, a 1936 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, served aboard the battle- ships Texas and New Mexico until the early World War ll period. He then underwent flight training and became a flight instructor at Jacksonville. ln early 1944 he assumed com- mand of Patrol Bomber Squadron 71 and de- ployed to the South Pacific.
