Capt. Wm. B. Barrow ommanding Officer Captain William B. Barrow, Jr., came to the BENNINGTON in December, 1968, from Com- mander Seventh Fleet where he was the Navy Representative in Saigon. Capt. Barrow was graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in June 1943 Iclass of '44l, then received aviation indoctrination at Jackson- ville, Fla. He spent WWII aboard the battleship USS WASHINGTON as Assistant Navigator. After the war Capt. Barrow returned for flight training in 1945, and was designated a Naval Aviator at the Naval Air Station, Corpus Christi, Tex., in 1946. In 1952 he was graduated from the Test Pilot School and soon afterward was transferred to the USS KEARSARGE. During the winter of 1952-53, Capt. Barrow flew more than 100 combat missions over Korea and was awarded four Air Medals. Through the rest of the 50's Capt. Barrow was instrumental in incorporating many safety programs along with weapons delivery systems. In 1961 Capt. Barrow was graduated from the Naval War College and became the Commanding Officer of Air Wing Four. Capt. Barrow served as BENNINGTON'S Commanding Officer from mid-December 1968 through October 9 when he departed for Washing- ton, D.C., to serve with the Chief of Information.
