WHITNEF English, Latin English, Speech English English French, History The leaders of our educational growth The study of literature leads to adventure and excitement. umnnmwwxm English is the center of the high school curriculum. For the student who will complete his formaleducation with his diploma, for the student who will en- ter the business world with marketable skills, and for the student who will continue his studies in higher institu- tions of learning, there is a special place in the program of our English Department. Virginia Ann and Barbara display scroll. B.H.S. offers the students two foreign languages. To present the Latin language as a basis of English word studies and to emphasize correct grammatical usage in English, to give students a glimpse of early Roman history with comparison between the ancient and the modern life, and to develop the ability to read and understand Latin - these are the objectives of the Latin courses. The purpose in studying the French language is to lay a solid foundation in hearing, speaking, read- ing, writing, and to understand and appreciate the people of France and their contributions to world culture.

The science department of B.l-LS, is one of the most active in the school. Comprised of general science, biology, and chemistry, it of- fers almost any type a student could desire. Through the various science courses students acquire knowledge which will give them an adequate background for further study or for the everyday needs of life in the present century when science becomes more and more impor- tant to the average man. 1.4 4.4 Mrs. Calhoun helps with last minute research. The library is one of the many services offered the students of our school. It has a reference room in which stu- dents may do research and quiet study. The library subscribes to 30 current magazines, a daily newspaper, the lo- cal newspaper. Of the 2,400 books in the library approximately 200 have been added this year. These include both fiction and factual books. These books are available to all students of B.H.S. for use in educational purpose and for pleasure reading.
