Graduates Bid Farewell to Alma Mater The graduating class of 1970 held its commencement exercises in the Benedictine High School gymnasium on May 29, 1970. The proceedings began at 8:00 p.m. The evening was highlighted with speeches by the Class Valedictorian, Lawrence Blatnik, the Class Salutatorian, Michael Kozlowski, Student Council President, Gary Kusner, and Mr. Benedictine, Wayne Bacik. Addresses were also given by Principal Rev. Roger Gries, O.S.B. and Benedictine President Abbot Jerome Koval, O.S.B. The guest speaker was Mr. George Melton, member of the Benedictine High School School Board, and Principal of Woodbury Junior High School, in Shaker Heights, Ohio. The Baccalaureate Mass and Awards Assembly were held on the morning of the same day. A memorable day for the Senior Class, it will not be soon forgotten. Wayne Bacik—Mr. Benedictine Recipient of the school's most exclusive award, Mr. Benedictine, for the year 1970, was Wayne Bacik. Wayne played football for four years, being varsity co-captain of this year's city championship team. He also lettered in baseball, and basketball, and was vice president of the Monogram Club.
