underclassmen ;S Benedictine's younger set is its underclassmen. These are the students at whom the faculty aims the bulk of its efforts. Following the example of seniors, they are learning the way of Benedictine men, observing and establishing tradition. They are discovering that they can benefit only in direct proportion to their efforts. This last lesson is perhaps the most important they will learn as Benedictine students for it is the basic principal of all progress.

Death takes Father Charles The joy of the Christmas season was dimmed by the death of Saint Andrew abbey resident Rev. Charles J. Florek, O.S.B. Father Charles, a Benedictine for 48 of his 68 years, died Dec. 29 in his monastery room. Most of his life was spent as a pastor at Saint Michael's parish in Chicago. He worked there as an assistant from the time of his ordination in 1922 until October 1928 when he became pastor. Illness forced his retirement in June 1957, whereupon he moved to Saint Andrew's. The sicknesses had resulted in blindness and the amputation of both legs. Father is buried in Saint Andrew abbey's plot of Calvary cemetery. 18 Rev. Charles J. Florek, O.S.B.
