He or she simultaneously desires and dreads achieving a significant goal - graduation day, a college diploma. The symbol of success, but also the end of college days. Senior year reflects this ambi- valence. Seniors more than anybody else talk about the past, and the future. Se- nior year brings usenioritisu - a marked propensity toward finishing one's college career in full stride, with as little exertion as possible. It means late nights in the lounges, and ever later mornings. To Mountie seniors it means lots of bridge, or the promise of a day in June. The past pleasantly haunts a senior. The old story of H IfI had it to do over again . . . pops up time and again. Or maybe the vague memory of that Mountie who was so good looking', but never came back. A damn good course, and a prof. who really understood what itis like to be a student. The memory's halls are filled with temporary failures, and whole rooms of partial successes. And who can ever forget a pre-Easter week in '67, N.A.I.A., and the night Kansas City cried for mercy! But senior year is also a step into the future. Dreams of the future comprise a large part of a seniorls life. A characteristic of a senior is writer,s cramp, from fill- ing out applications, resumes, announcements to anxious relatives and friends, and even more anxious draft boards. The graduating seniors take the world upon their shoulders, and the responsibilities of adulthood. And we believe that the col- lege experience offered by both St. Benedict's and the Mount has prepared the graduates to accept their role in society, And build for themselves and their children a better world . . .
