ltr lfrjfllmt CLHSS VOYHGE The memonble day of September 8 1933 davvned serene and beautiful radrant vvith the sunshine of hope cheer and joyous promise The good ship Ben Davis High School stood at anchor at the vvharf of a nevv school year lt was the same old ship that had carried many passengers into the harbor of the Greater Wisdom it was rumored that those on board vvere about to set sail over nevv and untriecl vvaters in cjuest of the Fountain of Perfect Understanding XX e vvere naturally very enthusiastic and asked many eager questions of Captain Vance as to the inc dents of our voyage and its probable length He informed us that if vve vvere perseverrng and diligent in our duties vue could easily reaeh our destinatron within four years So it was with very hopeful hearts and smiling faces that vve bade our fond teachers and old friends good bye as we steamed away from the vvharf and out of the harbor actually embarked for a four years absence and our Y oyage of High School Life sengers nor to feel very much at home with our Captain the First Mate the Supercargo and even the Steward Our fears of shipwreck were entirely wiped away in the knowledge that so able a staff of seamen had us in charge There were naturally a few cases of seasickness and various ones were tempted to drsagree with Algebra Geometry and many other non understandable subjects and toss some of their best belongrngs overboard in times of rough sea but the Admrral told them calmly but nrmly that they would only have to consume these undesirables over and over until they were perfectly assrmilated Our successful voyage over the Freshman sea was aided by the crew which consisted of Ed Smith as Cap tain Peggy Wilson as First Mate eame Hamilton as Supercargo and Charles Ketro as Steward We had smooth sailing over the Sophomore sea due to the fact we had another fine crew with Furman Wyatt as President Irene Wyatt as Vice President Violet Bohanan as the Secretary and Louis Klers as Treasurer Plowing through the unior sea was quite a responsibility but we were ably guided by Captain Carl Rrstow First Mate Peggy Wilson Supercargo Betty Louden and our small but mighty Steward Sam Brer Now on this last sea the Senior sea we selected a very dignified crew as would be Our Captain this time being Grlbert Dickey First Mate Peggy Wilson Supercargo Carolme Thomas and our star forward oe Spreckelmeyer as Steward We now look at the larger more majestic ocean ahead of us and feel that our experiences have fitted us to withstand every storm and to say with Byron Roll on thou deep and dark blue ocean roll' Ten thousand fleets sweep over there in vain But not in vain the Class of 37' We will go on writing new logs of greater adventure and yet more wonderful discovery for while the Voyage of High School Life is at its end the Voy age of Real Life is just now at rrs triumphant commencement l6l , 7 4 4 K 4 v . 4 4 Y V V Y v . 1 4 A I , I 74 A V 4 Y ' A K ' f 5 in . y ' . 5 ' , .
