SOCIAL STUDIES DEPARTMENT Social Studies classrooms are laboratories which explain the past out of which our ideals and prin- ciples of democracy have evolved. Civics empha- sizes to all freshmen their duties, responsibilities, and rights as citizens. All sophomores in world history are offered opportunities to understand the present world prob- lems through the understanding of the past. One semester courses, of social problems and current prob lems, provide credit needs as well as the study of contemporary problems of individual group, and inter-group living. Students may use the library for recreational or reference work between the hours of eight and four. A week of library instruction is given to the freshmen as a part of their course in Eng- lish I.
