,--1, .ffl :Z - fncuuu You ha fe been asked the question, What is our school? Maybe it is the faculty. There certainly is no question about their academic training. All our teachers have their Bachelor's degrees, and sixteen of them have their Master's degrees. Besides teaching, the teachers have other interests. Some would be described as a hobby and others would be necessary duties. Many of the students never picture a teacher doing any- thing but teaching. In the following pages we have tried to illustrate as nearly as possible the ways the teachers occupy their time out of school. These pictures we consider unusual and reveal- ing. We have enjoyed visiting the teachers in their homes, and hope that you will enjoy learning more of their personalities and ways of living. 359' MISS DONNA CRAWFORD, on the left, and MISS ALICE SCHAFMAN, on the right are secretaries in the business office of Community Unit School District 100. MISS SHIRLEY HALVERSON, center, is the secretary in the high school office. MISS DOROTHY BENNETT is kept very busy as a co-advisor of the junior class. Along with her advising, she teaches English II. She received her Master of Arts degree from the University of Illinois. Miss Bennett likes to collect vases and arrange flowers. MISS MINERVA BLACKBURN teaches Spanish and Latin. She advises the Belvi and has charge of hall locks and lockers. She too advises the new organization, F.T. A. I-Ier Master of Arts degree was received from Northwestern University. Collecting antiques and refinishing them herself are her favorite pastime. English I1 and Public Speaking are taught by MISS RUTH BOWMAN. Every year she directs the senior class play. She received her Master of Arts degree from Northwestern University. MR. VIRGIL MCALLISTER is completing his fifth year as principal of Belvidere High School. Among his many duties are managing the cafeteria and being a senior class advisor. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Illinois State Normal and his Master of Arts degree from Iowa State College. Much of his spare time is taken up by playing ping-pong and with an electric train .... belonging to his young son. MISS RUTH HARRIS is the assistant principal. Much of her time is taken up by advising the senior class and with her duties as registrar. Her Bachelor of Science degree was received from Augustana College and her Master of Arts degree was granted by Northwestern University. Along with her school work, she is co-advisor of the Student Council. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Eastern Illinois State Teachers College. During her spare time she sketches pictures. MR. DARRELL DIGGINS teaches Typing I and bookkeeping. He is one of the Bel-Hi advisors and manager of the bookstore. From Whitewater State Teachers College he received his Bachelor of Education degree. Attending stock-car races is his favorite enjoyment. MRS. DARRELL DIGGINS is the teacher of shorthand, Typing I, Il, and is one ofthe Bel-Hi advisors. She received her Bachelor of Education degree from Whitewater State Teachers College. Collecting recipes is her hobby. MISS ALICE ENTWHISTLE teaches Algebra 1 and general mathematics. Her Master of Arts degree was received from the University of Illinois. Her summers are spent playing golf. MISS ROSALIE GILES teaches world history and advises the National Honor Society. This year she is chairman of the Curriculum Committee. Reading and traveling are her pastimes. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin. MR. CHARLES HARNED is Director of Music of Community Unit School District loo. He teaches both the freshman band and the high school band. After school hours he has a great interest in raising tropical fish.
