MYHUN Jouxsox BELT BUCKLE SENIOR CLASS HISTORY In September, 1924, forty-six pioneers set out upon a journey, expecting to arrive at the summit of the Mountain of Knowledge within four years. These pioneers were the forty-six boys and girls who started high school here four years ago. The first year spent on this trip led them across the Desert of Trial to the foothills around the mountain. Many seeing the long climb ahead of them, fell out of line, or tiring, dropped at the wayside. The leaders on this first stage of the journey were Miss Wanda Sifford, Henry Larkin, Mildred Tuura and Lillian Bakko. Asthey reached the Foothills of Sophistication they looked back and they were proud that they had made the journey with so little mishap, and gazed with pitying eyes at the group just appearing on the horizon. Their leaders, now were Miss Mary Huston, Raymond Kennedy, Myron Johnson, and Ethel Ranta. The pioneers now bent towards the task before them in earnest and crossed the River of Conceit successfully 3 many of them held places on the football and basketball teams, and all earned excellent marks. Their Junior Prom was adjudged by many as the best ever given. Their leaders during this time were Miss Helen Ryan, Ethel Ranta, Mildred Tuura and Lillian Bakko. At last they reached the summit of the Mountain of Knowledge-led by Miss Lillian Mares, Myron Johnson, George Ford and Lillian Bakko. This year they excelled especially well in athletics, good marks, and publishing their year book. They procured as the symbol of their trip a ring. The colors they were represented by were old rose and silver, a motto, song and yell were chosen. Thirty of them reached the apex of their climb and with mixed feelings of regret for the passing years, satisfaction for an ideal attained, and hope for the future, looked into the distance where they could see the Mountain of Higher Knowledge and beyond that the Sea of Happiness. 1 -Helyne Remington. L., L.- ,,...,,,E1,,T,,-AL, SNEAK DAY l , In the early morning of Friday, April 20, the Senior Class met at the High School, got into cars and drove off to spend the day' at Volta Dam. The lower classes came to school, as usual, to find the major portion of the students absent. CThey all agreed the day was utterly ruined because we weren't there.J At Volta Dam we were taken through the Power House and shown over the grounds. We spent the day eating, playing games and dancing and returned home tired but happy. 1 9 2 8 Ninvh-er CLASS WILL We, the Class of 1928, in thirty individual parts, being about to pass out of this sphere of education in full possession of a crammed mind, well- trained memory and almost superhuman understanding do make and pub- lish this our last will and testament: We give and bequeath to our beloved Superintendent Prof. M. C. Bow- man, our sincere affection, our deepest reverence, our heartiest gratitude and the whole unlimited wealth of our eternal memory. We give and bequeath to the dear Faculty, who has been our instruc- tion in all the wisdom of the ages, a sweit and unbroken succession of restful nights and peaceful dreams. No longer will they have to worry whether or not we prepared our lessons. It has been a hard strain on them, for Seniors are said to be at all times and under all conditions diffi- cult to handle. But they have all done their duty and verily now shall they have their well-earned reward. To the school in general, we leave Mr. Johnson, the Janitor, providing they are as obedient to him as we were. To the Juniors, we leave our Senior dignity of which we have an over- abundance. We also leave them our vacated desks and a book on Child Care to help them in taking care of the coming Freshmen. To the Sophomores, we leave our quiet and reserved manners of which they are sorrowfully in need. To the Frosh, we leave the ladder we used in gaining the road to Fame. The following may seem but trifling bequests, but 'we hope they may be accepted not as worthless things, lavishly thrown away, because we can no longer keep them but as valuable assets to those who may receive them and a continual reminder of the generosity to heart, displayed in our free and full bestowal: Forrest Bough leaves his ability to raise turkeys and his drag with the women to Clarence Jewell. Lillian Bakko wills an insured package, in which will be found a pair of dimples, her dainty and tiny figure and a talent for dancing to Vera Rowe. Edith Burley bequeaths her unused diet and her love for playing Leap Frog to Ruth Clark. , Irene Burrows bestows on Matt Eoyle her expertness in typing, her ability to drive a Ford and all of her giggles. To Earl Kennedy, a skin you love to touch , and her flaxen hair is left by Ethel Berg. Steven Bodner wills his desire to become a minister and his over-sup- ply of bashfulness to Alex Childerhose. George Ford leaves his love for arguing and his studiousness to Adam Gossack. Helen Brutosky leaves an abundance of golden wavy hair, a host of young male friends, and her reputation of being the life of any party to Vianna Hauskama. To Rachel King, Helen Hammer leaves a pair of blue eyes and her motto of taking things as they come. h Sigurd Johnson leaves his quiet and gentlemanly ways and a number of his snappy ballads to Pat Larkin. To John Levandowski, Myron Johnson wills his ability to shoot long- distance baskets, and his well-groomed appearance, he also agrees to give up a few minutes of each happy hour spent with Marjorie. ' Harold A. Johnson gives up his habit of day dreaming to Martin Le- land and he is willing to leave Evelyn in Mutt's care until he can take care of her permanently. Raymond Kennedy bestows on Evan Gray his art of drawing, his black wavy hair and a book entitled The Latest Fads for Young Men. To James Provin, Charles Klimas wills all of his cigarettes, his position as right forward on the Basketball team and a talent for singing. Elizabeth Malcolm leaves a pair of sparkling brown eyes, her over-- supply of intelligence and her thrilling dates with the Great Falls boys to Helen Weberg. To May Photo, Hazel Landry leaves a pair of ever-ready dimples, pro- viding she uses them to as good advantage. She also wills her vocal ability to Jim Veleber. Elizabeth Mital gives her over-supply of strength to Anna Saul, and her sweet disposition to Virginia Miller. Joe Pillar wills his desire to die a married man and his habit of keeping up with the times to Herschael Daffern. If Dorothy Depew promises to roll them as well as their owner, Ethel Ranta will leave her naughty eyes, also her string of admirers and her love for dancing. Helyne Remington bestows on Ethel -Castner her pretty blond curls and her admiration for John Strosky. To Mike Kennedy, Charles Remington leaves his habit of being tardy and his good looks. Myron Robinson wills his ability to tell jokes and his extra Babe Ruths to Edward Florek. Ronald Randall leaves all of his mischievous ways and his oratorical ability to David Grove. . To Verna Frisbee, Ada Simonis leaves her natural wavy hair, her peda- gogish manners and her willingness to lend a helping hand. Mildred Tuura bestows on Margaret Marsh her slim figure, a report card with exceptionally high marks and her ability to drive an Oakland. To Frank King, Frank Samuelson wills his popularity with the girls and his desire to find the one who loves him. ll BELT BUCKLE Y Gladys Wellington bequeaths to Dorothy Nelson her calm and ladylike ways and her admiration for boys. Harold E. Johnson wills to Louis Anderson his desire to cop a girl and also to become a man of high stature. In witness, whereof, we the Class of 1928, set our hands? and seal and publish this our last will and testament this twenty-ninth day of May, one thousand nine hundred twenty-eight. A Signed: Class of 1928, L Executor: Helen Brutosky. Witnesses: Myron Johnson George Ford ,L ,A .,-,,...-Y Y Ei ,, 7 L SONNET The pioneers should surely be the ones To share in honor of the brave and true, Large families from the East, and small ones, too, Came to the West with daughters and with sons Came out to build a home for loving ones. In trouble and in strife they plodded thru. Much trouble was expected, this, they knew But they were Pioneers and would not run. There were many who had started on their way Have made their homes out where the West begins, While others travelled onward toward the coast Have struggled for prosperity day by day. So if you are a pioneer, my friend, You hold an honor and can proudly boast. -Hazel Landry. 1928 I t I I - i BELT BUCKLE -Y -. ---- SENIOR CLASS PROPHECY The blood red sun sank slowly. Its lingering rays suffused the flat, dusty prairie with a warm glow-misty and shadowing with dust. The hollow thud, thud, of the oxen, ceased. Then came the night. A slight dark figure leaps from the foremost wagon, dusty and tired, but with a look of courage undaunted in her fine brown eyes. Who is she? She looks so familiar-why-Miss Mares. Her clear voice com- mands a halt and the thirty Seniors, pioneers in heart and endeavor, hastily build camp for the night. The scene is one of busy activity. How fast and thoroughly these Seniors work. The supper is over and cleared away. The crackling woodfire is sending sparks up the dusky blackness of the night. A solemn hush descends over the group as Chief Eagleheart takes his place among them in their circle around the fire. Eager, expectant glances settle on the countenance of the prophet. The low wail of a coyote sounds from across the prairie. The wind sighs low-anxious too- to hear the prophecy of the illustrious class of nineteen twenty-eight. The Chief begins-his tone is low and mellow and flows on in dreamy monotony. Friends-it is my happy lot to be able to impart to you your destinies. The spirits of my fathers aid me in bestowing upon you the knowledge of your future. His gaze into the fire deepens. Proper it is, Palefaces, that I begin with Myron Johnson, better known as Beets , the president of this illus- trious Class. This young man, so interested in athletics, architecture, and printing, I see planning out a football field for Yale. Between times he is working on sign-printing. Blonde hair and blye eyes, oh-Miss Helen Hammer, a living advertise- ment of Blondex Shampoo, of which company she is a rising saleswoman. It is rumored that she is soon to wed the son of the president of the company. A little Ford bug leaps into my view-the dust is intense. I can hardly see the occupant-yes-yes, it is Forrest Bough, making a coast to coast race! At the rate he is going he is sure to win. A flat tire-and his dreams are vanished-but wait--he flies on his way on the rim! Plucky lad! I see men gathered in anxious expectancy about Miss Elizabeth Mal- colm, who is typing her way to fame-a breath of admiration-she has usurped the place of Hossfield, World's Champion Typist. Who is this I see with a pair of twins on his knee-such a homelike scene-why Kelly Johnson-the fond papa of a promising pair of off- spring. I recognize in his wife a little blonde girl who ensnared Kelly with her charms during his Junior and Senior years. . -W I ....YY.fiY.-.-..-........ii 1 928 ..,. ,-.. .. .,.. ..i. - IH, DA, ,W 'I' ty Th Another matrimonial adventure. Our friend, Edith Burley, setting out to the Alps for her honeymoon with a tall man, foreign in appearance and using with much dexterity his monocleg ever and anon twisting his dainty moustache and gazing adoringly at his blushing bride of a few days. The scene, oh Pioneers, changes to one of great hilarity-balloons, ele- phants, tigers-a circus! The billboards flaunt their greatest attraction. Attired in crimson, Elizabeth Mital, greatest contortionist of the times. Oh-a great political rally-Ronald Randall, great political boss and speaker of the hour is issuing orders to his followers. I hear a voice, rich with power and melody, pouring over the audience sitting spellbound with its beauty. Charles Klimas-second Caruso, is making his first appearance in grand opera. He will next tour Europe and his coming audience will be graced by the presence of the Prince of Wales, himself. I see a packed house, bright lights, and mirth-the rich folds of the stage curtain swing back to reveal two dancing figures against a back- ground formed by the chorus of Ziegfield's Follies. Why-Lillian Bakko and Ethel Ranta-now having leading parts in Ziegfield's Chorus. High, high among the clouds I see a lone figure in an aeroplane, who, but Harold E. Johnson, himself. He is testing his latest model and is seriously contemplating a flight to Mars, providing it doesn't rain. What flash of pearls now graces our vision? Ah, 'tis but the pearly teeth of Miss Helen Brutosky gleaming at us from a Pepsodent toothpaste Had. Miss Brutosky is busy, when she is not posing for the ads, writing a book, the title of which is How to Make a Hit With the Opposite Sex. Let's hope it's soon published. Gee-up-whoa-and the slim figure of a young farmer leaps into my vision. Joseph Pillar himself-managing his farm near Raynesford, which he gained through his marriage with a belle from that district. A flutter of handkerchiefs, a whistle, all-aboard, and Miss Ada Simon- is, a teacher in remote Africa is on her way to spend her vacation with her school day chum, Mildred Tuura, who is teaching in Alaska, and it is rum- ored that she is soon to wed a wealthy prospector. A somber black clothed figure-Myron Robinson-missionary in the South Sea Islands-now comes into view. I fear sadly that his worthy resolutions will dwindle away when his vision rests on the charms of the South Sea Island maidens. Such appetizing odors that assail my nostrils-why, look who's here, our friend, Franklin Samuelson-better known as Pinhead, flipping flap- jacks for the threshers on a ranch near Armington. Ethel Berg is now in the movies ably proving that blonde can be a blonde and still be a vamp. She is acting in one of Gladys Wellington's latest dramas. Steven Bodner is demonstrating his ability as a barber and has leased Ubal Landry's barber shop. I am quite sure he will make a huge success as he always was quite a ladies' man. A broken heart and tears-Hazel Landry is weeping bitterly because Porky wouldn't take her with him on his coast to coast race. Helyne Remington resides in Fife Where she is editing a newspaper called the Fife Daily . The last edition features, in red letters, the latest scandal: George Ford has eloped withlrene Burrows, a resident near there. Evidences of this elopement were making their first appear- ance in High School. Sigurd Johnson is a prosperous banker in Tiger Butte, but still clings to his old Ford truck-for peaceful and quiet driving. Bill Remington is a popular advocate of companionate marriages. His personal reason being that he likes the new girls in school so much that he believes in this manner he will be able to marry at least one fourth of all the girls he adores. In a dark attic studio, Raymond Kennedy, a struggling young artist, is running his way to fame and glory. As Chief drones out his last words of prophecy, a sigh scarcely audible, like a whisper of wind, escapes the group of listening Seniors. The camp- fire is a bed of glowing embers. Mournful and weird re-echoes the bark of the coyote from the distance and the Seniors lustily answer him with their Class song. -Ethel Ranta. - YY ,i Y 7g,,.7T SONNET O Pioneers, who dared to brave the wilds Who fought so fearlessly to gain a home Where Indian tribes and untamed buffaloes roamed, You proved not helpless like a little child, But attacked the strenuous duties upon you piled With a courage fitting just to you alone. You, with the dauntless spirit, muscle, and bone Who conquered all and made it look so mild. It is to you we gladly pay our homage To you, so worthy of all our humble praise, To you, who fought to answer your soul's call As now in this progressive modern age We look back over past history in amaze And honor ye brave Pioneers, who gave us all! -Ada Mae Simonis. My JUNIOR CLASS HISTORY The brave and hardy pioneers in the class of '29 started the undertak- ing of the perilous journey across the wide plains of B. V. H. S. in a huge prairie schooner, propelled and guided by the wisdom of the faculty and the will-power of the class itself. This journey of many joys and hard- ships commenced in 1925 and in that year, although some became faint hearted and turned back, we fought many of our battles victoriously, which gave us a high standing among the earlier settlers of the school. We have picked up a few travelers along the trail who have been a great help in solving our problems. As we have moved along unhampered by any obstacles which came our way, we have left trail marks to help other weary classmen over the rocks. Our B will always be remembered fespecially by the frosh when white-washing time comesj as a footstone to the success of our noble class of frontiersmen. Our sturdy athletes, who have participated in so many high school games and caused them to come out victoriously in almost all undertakings, will be an inspiration to their followers. They broke a trail, very clean and wide and they will continue their good work until the goal is reached, Graduation, We have had but one teamster these three years, Alex Childerhose, who has held the reins tight and has guided our schooner safely along the unknown trail. Our pioneers have been enthusiastic from the start and have been held as a good example for incoming settlers to the school. Mrs. MacDonald, our faithful guide, for two years has brought us safely and together through thick and thin. j The highest and steepest hill on our trail in the third year of our journey was the Junior Prom, which brought together a goodly share of the pioneers who have traveled the rocky road before us and have helped in being our inspiration. Our Prom was surely a success, for no one person could handle a bunch of stubborn mules and drive our schooner through these years better than our teamster and with all the hardy pioneers who rode in our wagon working together, how could it have been otherwise? Our Prom went over the top without any injury to our prairie schooner which has carried us along for three years and which can easily carry us another without much exertion on its part. Our brave crew has only one year left before winning our long worked for goalg after that we are independent settlers and we can look back on our perilous journey as a well written page in the Book of Time. -Dorothy Nelson. 1 1 W 1 9 2 8 ' T ' Wm ' ' A Th irty-One P N I I I 1 I I i I I I I I I I 'a ,H .WT 1,4 ,, 1, , ,,., E LT B CKLE :M I ' WWW f 2 I A X ' IWQ? ,ff , i2ff?I ,ir I ff - U31 ,V Tfgxig 5 A I ffff 'gif ' , 22 ,I fit, ' X- Cbslaclcs I Y EMZN 1 I iz 155. W-, ---------V+ imc: is BELT BUCKLE SOPI-IOMORE HISTORY The green covered wagon of '30 started on its progressive and untiring journey on a stormy looking morning of September, 1926. Little did We dream of the Wars We would have with the tribes of Equations, Clauses, Phrases, The Hydrochlorics, etc. The first Week was spent trying to get along peacefully With all these tribes. By the end of the Week We were pretty well acquainted with them, and very well acquainted with the chiefs, Chick, Skarty, Ryan, and Mac, Our captain, Hansen, tried to keep us altogether and peaceful. At the end of the second week we came upon a settlement of Sopho- mores, Juniors, and Seniors. They gave us a grand welcome by initiating us. They used Indian war paint to bring out our greenness, and played many good jokes on us. It was a Wonderful success for them, and we all felt that from this We had learned the Ways of the pioneer and could go on as one hundred per cent travelers. Toward the end of the first year's journey, the weather and hard usage had taken off nearly all of the green paint and it was beginning to look more like the wagons of '27, '28 and '29, The first year of our journey was a great success. In June when we received records of it we were proud of ourselves. The sixth of September, 1927, We started again on another lapse of our journey. We were confident that this would be more successful than the last year's journey, because We were now accustomed to the ways of the other travelers and we had just come to the close of a most wonderful three months' rest. Our second year has not quite ended but already we are beginning to feel the results of our success. The destination of our Wagon will be-we know not. Some started for gold, some for adventure, but as a whole we started to find and develop the best that is in us. -Ruth Wilson. DEVELOPMENT I often dream of pioneers of old Who settled in a place out of the way. Because of them we live in peace to-day In a country which is Worth its Weight in gold. It was a country of hardy men so bold, Of men of greatness Without feet of clay Of men, tho wild, did not forget to pray A prayer to God, A prayer for more than gold. As asked, this state was bettered much by time Its rivers now making commerce possible Its plains now glisten with the gold of grain Its prosperity is great and rich and fine A great and lasting future is now able As great and better development comes with time. -Raymond Kennedy. ft '1928 'tt 'err fr tere my-MTM lh t I W V-,TI BELT BUCKLE gn ,, ,YL-XX if y X XY I K Q R 1 1 , . u ffl. Being dissatisfied with it as a permanent abiding place, we Frosh, a band of hardy pioneers, strong, set sail September 1927 for the Realm of Know- ledge. Our first task was the selection of officers to guide the crew and bring our good ship, Education, safely to port. Captain James Irvine took the helm. Under his leadership Comrade M. Marsh was chosen first mate and B. Tuura has served faithfully as boatswain. We met the first grave danger of the voyage when our sturdy craft struck upon the Rock of Initiation. It was a dreadful place! Waves of Cruelty, Torture, Ridicule, and Humiliation, almost wrecked our vessel, but -Cheerfulness and Good Sportsmanship brought us at last into more quiet waters. Effort, and Loyalty have enabled us to win notable vic- tories in our contests with these stalwart warriors. The greatest battle was Won against the Sophomores in the Class Series Wars. We are justly proud of our triumphs and accomplishments, but trust this spirit will not blind us to the need of future efforts. Like the honor- able pioneers of the past, we shall endure, strive, and serve. So shall we prove ourselves Worthy of the blessings of the rich, new land. ' -Alice Klimas. SONNET The morning is so many miles away, S The winter nites surround us vast and cold, The vastless heaven many a star does hold With calmness and peace both having their full sway. All over the floods of silver moonlight lay. ' A glory on those billows that enfold, The rolling sea and verdant forest of old The weeping willows wait the distant day. Our dreams go forth unuttered to the West, The splendor of our fancies do have a weight, And vary like the thousand nature's glories. Our thoughts in our minds are waiting for the test, If worthy they will travel a distance far, Like dawning mornings they follow each other with ease. -Helen Brutosky. 7, ...L , ,N 1 928 , ,W W Y ww-,wiv Thirty-Nine BELT BUCKLE GIRLS' VOCATIONAI. CONFERENCE Helyne Remington and Ethel Ranta represented Belt at the Girl's Vocational Congress at Bozeman, November seventeenth to nineteenth. On their return they each gave a speech in the assembly, imparting to their fellow students the benefit of the speeches which they so fortunately were able to hear. They reported having had a jolly trip and much fun afforded by the companionship of over two hundred girls from every part of the state. BOYS' VOCATIONAI. CUNGRESS The following boys attended the Boys' Vocational Congress: Joe Pil- lar, Commercial, Earl Kennedy, Vocations, Bill Remington, P. T. A.3 Harold E. Johnson, Eino Kivi, Billy Porter, Stanley Penn, Clarence Jewell, Animal Husbandry, James Provin, Chemistry. Sigurd Johnson attended as a guest of M. J. Abbey. This was the largest delegation that had ever been sent from Belt. The feature of this trip was the judging done by the three on the Stock Judging Team, Eino Kivi, Billy Porter, and Harold E. Johnson. They were awarded a trip to Portland having won first place on the Great Northern Line. A thing not to be overlooked was the splendid coaching of D. L. MacDonald, Mac! Sigurd Johnson, A Senior , was taken on the trip as a guest of M. J. Abbey. This is an honor, the first of the kind offered to anybody in the school. Sigurd's good work in this is not to be forgotten. While down there the boys attended several speeches, given by prom- inent men in this country. After listening to these speeches they at- tended basketball games and saw the famous Bobcats in action. DEBATING In the district debating contest held at Simms this year Augusta was the winner, Belt taking second place. The Belt team was composed of Joy Browning and Alex Childerhose. EXTEMRORANEOUS WRITING For the first time in several years Belt took part in the State Ex- temporaneous Writing Contest. The nine best essays in the state were chosen and the authors and their chaperones invited to Butte during the State Basketball Meet. This year Helyne Remington was one of the nine and with Mrs. MacDonald made the trip to Butte. ' 1928 lf 1 'iii W. nj-5 BELT BUCKLE Q 'L 1 K I 5-:Mu 7 ' f 3 :Z-x QW I 4 , ff ,10 5 441 x v lu. They were led one by one from a dark room into the brilliantly lighted stage where they went through many solemn ceremonies. As they entered they were given huge, dangling angleworms to eat as a forerunner of the disagreeable studies and the objects they must encounter during their four years in High Sclfool. They were next branded, showing they belonged to Belt High and must be loyal to it. The electric shock, as it came upon them suddenly, showed them how flunking will shock one unless he studies. Their teeth were pulled as a symbol of the conceit that must be taken away from them. After the initiation they led a Grand March and the rest of the evening was spent dancing and playing games. Refreshments were served at midnight. HIGH SCHOOL PARTY On October 27, the Seniors and Sophomores entertained the Juniors and Freshmen. Ghosts and Corn Hunt and many other novelty stunts and games were enjoyed. Dancing was the chief diversion of the evening, the music furnished by the Night Hawk Orchestra. Refresh- ments were served at midnight. DRAMATIC CLUB LEAP YEAR PARTY For the first time in several years a leap-year party was held January 7, with the Dramatic Club girls hostesses. The girls asked the boys and escorted them to the party. Dancing was the main feature of the eve- ning. The boys were asked for all the dances except a few boys' choice . A Novelty Dance was one in which the boys drew the hearts with the girls' names on them to find out who they were to dance with. The rest of the evening the girls wore their hearts on their sleeves. The girls escorted the boys to supper at midnight. OLD FOLKS' DANCE The Lions Club gave their annual Old-Timers Dance at the High School Auditorium, February 17. This year the proceeds went to the Senior Class for the publication of their Annual. In spite of the muddy roads a large crowd was assembled and all enjoyed themselves immense- ly as they danced through the intricate steps of the Quadrille , Schot- tische, Polka, and many other of the favorite old time dances. At midnight the Senior class served refreshments, candy and cigars, which were enjoyed by all. The dance lasted until the wee hours in the morn- ing and the crowd left weary but happy. The Senior Class wishes to thank the members of the Lions Club for giving them this help in publishing their year book. - ' 1928 I l BELT BUCKLE ' f--Jibril, if -V ,ggi-f fy A , ie:-4J'f' 'i m ilf-P5 A F4 f' ' f f 1 4 - ff m f N, 1 .f - f f N . ,, ,, ' . Right Tackle-Eddie Butcher Boy Florek towered about 6 feet in the air and was good for looking into the other teams' plays and he broke up a number of them this year. Center-Andrew Bundy Harcharick has played this position for three years and after next year he will leave it for someone else to hold down. Bundy is an accurate passer and knew where every play was going. Left Guard-Arthur Nordy Nordquist was always on the job and played good interference for the backs on all end runs and fakes. Nordy will be back next year and will be used, I'm sure. This is his first year on the eleven. Left Tackle-Steve Pick Bodner always took his man out and was ready for more. Steve will be missed next year, but that's not saying he's not going to make the college freshman team. Left End-Charles Chuck Klimas held down a responsible position and was always on the job. The first game Belt played was against Valier. This game was a slow one and Belt walked away with a score of 42 with 20 for the oppon- ent's side. Great Falls outclassed Belt in the second game played on the 23rd and the score ended with Great Falls 30 points ahead of Belt. The score was 51 to 21. Belt's third game was played against Shelby. The two teams Were very well matched against each other in size but when it came to playing- well-We beat 42 to 20. Belt's last game which made the final decision of where we would stand in the Tournament, was played against Chinook, a fast, peppy team. The quintets were well matched and the game was very fast and interesting. But-let's get at it-the game ended, 27 to 24, with us on the big end of the score, and Belt got fourth place in the Tournament. COUNTY TOURNAMENT The County Tournament was held January 27 and 28 of this year at Great Falls. Belt played three games in which she lost one, the first that was played, against Great Falls. The game was very fast and the audience was held in suspense until the very end. Great Falls was favored by the referee but even then they only beat us by four points. Score was 36 to 32. Belt's game with Simms was a slow one and we walked off with a score of 50. Simms was consoled with 28 points. Fort Shaw was favored in the last game but through good work, Belt got in the lead and the game ended in our favor.
