We’ve shared the good times and laughter together, And through the bad times we’ve been there for each other. Although a few have come and a few have gone, We’ll cherish all the memories and forever hold on. We all remember those grade school sweethearts and fun packed dances, Now there’s the cruising of Mill and high school romances. They say a class matures over those long school years, Which I think we’ve proven through the joys and the tears Our class is one that has come a long way, Since we all met each other on that very first day. So to sum it all up we think our class is divine, Because there's no other class like — the Class of 89. Not only did they increase in numbers, but also their spirit grew with involvement. SADD participated in Project Graduation and sent representatives to a state conference. The highlight of the year for the organization was taking third place in the homecoming float competition. With the increase in membership and continuing success, SADD looks toward a brighter future. Kari Richards, David Mills, Marsha Foulk, Jennifer Ayers, and Joyce Noah enjoy a SADD meeting. While here, she wanted to learn more about people and cultures. She enjoys riding horses, going to parties, and traveling. Jose Ogarrio came from Oaxaco, Mexico, which has about 250 thousand people. He enjoyed the calmness of Beloit. He wanted to learn English to help him in his intended career of international relations. He enjoys going to discos or going camping in the woods. He also enjoys reading and hunting. Ljudmila Milanvic came from Belgrade, Yugoslavia, which has about 2 million people. She came to Beloit to learn about other cultures, people, and languages. The co-editors of the 1987-88 newspaper are Kurtis Marozas and Kathi Clark. They are using a new system in which the columns of the paper are printed out on a computer right in the room instead of taking it downtown to be printed up. Using the computer takes less time, and the staff is extremely pleased. Top priority for the staff was that the student body would enjoy. Along with having fun, they’ve learned how to put their journalism skills to work. 68 Kurt and Kathi seem to be demonstrating how hard they work as the coeditors of The Halls of Troy. The club still sponsors a Mexican boy in Jalisco, Mexico. Also, the annual Spanish Fiesta, held April 11th, attracted a large crowd. For the first time ever, the club donated a $300 scholarship to the selected senior who has completed two years of Spanish at Beloit High. Before school even started, they were at the school acting as orientation guides for the seventh graders and also showed the new students around. They tried something new this year — The Breakfast Club. Each Friday morning doughnuts and juice or milk were sold for 25 t. At Christmas time they acted as secret santas for the faculty and sponsored an all-county dance. They also had a Stuco exchange day with St. Johns. For Valentines Day, they sponsored a flower exchange. Overall, Stuco had a successful year and BJSHS benefited greatly from their efforts. Future Homemakers of America is a new organization at BHS this year. It was slow in getting started, but soon was busy with many projects. FHA places emphasis on human potential and its related occupations. FHA started off its year by traveling to Herrington for a Fall Conference. During the Thanksgiving season they made and distributed fruit baskets to the elderly, and made placecards for the residents at Hilltop. Christmas caroling was done for the residents at the Hilltop Lodge. They also worked two concession stands during the basketball season. They had a bake sale in the spring. Laurie Adams, President; Charissa Baxter, Vice-President; Sherry Mehl, Secretary; Jennifer Rehmert, Treasurer. We are the Future Homemakers of America. We face the future with warm courage and high hope. For we have the clear consciousness of seeking old and precious values. For we are the builders of homes, Homes for America's future, Homes where living will be the expression of everything that is good and fair, Homes where truth and love and security and faith will be realities, not dreams. We are the Future Homemakers of America. We face the future with warm courage And high hope. Tiffani Collins and Dawn Littrell prepare fruit plates to take to Hilltop rest home as an FHA project. The Beloit High Drama Department performed “Play On to an enthusiastic crowd on November 12th and 13th. Except for a few minor problems, the play went off without a hitch. “Play On” is actually a play within a play written by Rick Abott. The inner play is a murder mystery set in the 1920’s in London, England. It is entitled “Murder Most Foul. A knight of the realm has been murdered and a very expensive necklace that has a curse on it has fallen into the wrong hands. In the outer play, the cast of Murder Most Foul” is preparing for the upcoming performance they are not prepared for. The author of the play keeps changing the script and adding characters so the cast doesn’t know what they are doing. Pam Kindlesparger was the student director who assisted Mrs. Zimmer. Christine and Justin Em-mot took care of the lighting and Gussy Mays took care of the sound. Melinda Odle and Stacia Robinson did the players’ makeup. The play was deemed very successful by those who attended. When asked to comment on the play, Mrs. Zimmer replied, “I wished we could have performed it another two or three nights.” Tanya Twaddell looks on as Teresa Boden twirls her feather duster with anxiety and Jim Highland with a hat in hand looks for help. 90 Forensic Squad Qualifies 7 for State Back Row, Left to Right: E. Brad, and Karen await the prom supper The 1988 Junior-Senior Prom at Beloit High was a great success due to the hard work of the juniors, their sponsors, and the parents. The theme for the prom was, Hold On To The Nights” by Richard Marx. The banquet started at 7:00 p.m., with a menu of marinated pork chops, twice-baked potatoes, green beans, rolls, and cherry cheese cake. It was delicious and well-attended by close to 180 people. Lisa Hull, Junior class president, welcomed everyone and dedicated a poem to the seniors. Chris Struble gave the invocation. After eating, Allison Conway gave an appreciation to all the people who helped to make the prom a success, and Amy Gravatt announced the itinerary for the evening. Next, Kelli Donley and Buffy Kadel entertained with various awards made for the seniors. After the meal, pictures were taken from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Finally, the dance began at 9:00 p.m. and lasted until 12:00 p.m. The commons area was decorated in blue and silver. It was majestically changed into a heaven-like atmosphere with balloons, streamers, and a fountain. Kara Heiman sang the theme with Kelli Donley accompanying her on the piano. The band First Stryke then played a variety of songs and everyone danced with enthusiasm. After the dance, there was an after-prom breakfast put on by the parents in the Elks building. There were eggs, cinnamon rolls, and orange juice, and it was well-enjoyed by all who attended. There were baby pictures hung on the walls and a video tape of the juniors and seniors as kids. This caused everyone to joyfully reminisce in the past that they have shared with each other. The prom was, without a doubt, one of the best ever. It was well attended and fun for all. The reason for the success was all the hard work that the juniors, sponsors, and parents put into it. A big thanks is in order, so thanks everyone for making this prom a great one and remember to “hold on to the night.” 95 HUMAN BEING fi SPORTS 101 First Row, Lto R — J. Colby, N. Colby, T. Myers, E. Playing iike a team scared to lose” they finished tri-champs in the tough NCKL league. Though picked 4th in the league, they lost only once and led the league in total offense and total defense. The season started well with a hard-fought victory over Hillsboro, 6-0. Next they traveled to Marysville to take on a tough Marysville team. The Trojans pulled out a win when Trent Collins kicked a fieldgoal with 1 second left to give the Trojans a 10-7 victory. The team won the next 3 games with good defense and great offensive efforts. Next Beloit took on arch-rival Concordia to start district play. In this battle, the Trojans came out on top, 14-0. The Abilene Cowboys came to town and added a loss to the Trojans record. They finished the season against Russell. In a game that they knew wouldn’t help their hopes for a spot in the state playoffs, they played well and showed their poise by winning 26-12. Although they were knocked out of post-season, the Beloit Trojans had a record of seven wins and one loss. SENIORS: Front Row: Shannon Peters, Eric Lampert, Kurtis Marozas, Hans Baker. She will be greatly missed by all who know her. In addition to enjoying her job, Mrs. Williams found the students she dealt with on a daily basis very special because there was always something new and interesting happening with them. She recalled a particular experience: A group of seventh graders asked me my age. I told them they didn’t want to know, but they insisted. When I told them, one of them replied, 'Oh my God, and you’re still alive?' ” Mrs. Williams described herself jokingly as the oldest thing in the building.” She enjoys life to the fullest, enjoys good health, good friends, and the world in general. Best Wishes To You, Theda! 160
