Bellows '48 grid team was unable to engineer a single victory to grace its scorebook, but ac- complished something just as important when it was demonstrated that a Bellows team can take a terrific beating and still remain full of fight and spirit. Mentored by coaches Jack Fearon and Fred Wurzbacher, the team entered and played every game with all the esprit de corps of past Panther teams and provided an excellent training ground for athletes from which to build future Panther squads. Starting their season with a 27-O setback at the hands of the Pleasantville Panthers, the ill- fated Blue and Black gridsters had two more rough rides with Mamaroneck and Scarsdale. bowing 45-0 and 49-0 respectively, before hit- ting pay dirt for the first time. Then, sparked by Eddie Feldt's pitching arm, they entered an opposing end zone for the first time in a 28-6 M. Romani. Coach Wurzbacher. Third Row-E. Kayner, W. Cummings. W. Weissauer, L. Litchfield. T. Mayers, F. Vitetta. J. Trimarchi, W. Magrino, D. Dahlgren, W. Saunders. R. Keegan, W. Panaro, game with Edison Tech, which was closer than the score indicates. The following week saw them again suffer a shut out. This time the Harrison Huskies were on the long end of the 35-O count. Undaunted by this defeat, the Panthers bounced back the next Saturday to give the Rye Garnet a tough battle before losing 13-7 in the tightest game of the season. In the closing game the unlucky Panthers again took it on the chin. This time the East- chester Eagles provided the opposition to the tune of 24-O. Even in this last heartbreaking lcss. the famous Bellows spirit didn't waver as the squad displayed the high morale and sports- manship worthy of our athletic representatives. Though they lost, we have nothing to be ashamed of in that performance or in the performance of the entire season.
