Assembly Programs To most students the assembly programs are something to 3I1t1C1p8t8 as a break in the week s work Upon returning in the fall students were surprised to find a new schedule for assembly period After many years of joint programs on Friday afternoon the time was changed to Thursday morning fourth period Another vari ation was separate assemblies alternating each week for the junior and Senior High Programs of special interest could thus be provided for each group while many of the outstanding ones were presented at Joint assemblies Here we have tried to show the variety of assemblies that have taken place this year First Row J Derby E Giancola C Heithaus G Hood M Romani Sec ond Row P Clark W Fitts R Bar J Katz D Beckwith R Knight W Fitts P Bowman J Fausett R Hill Lively d1scuss1ons were not l1m1ted to the forty five minute low W Lemon Why the Chimes Rang f I period of a Social Studies class due to the formation of the Forum Club For the Thanksgiving program, the club led the whole school in a discussion about the average American and for what he 1S thankful Although it started quite clamly the dis cussxon soon changed when students from the audience as well as the leaders on the stage expressed different op1n1ons Replacing the annual Christmas rnovie was the Dramatics Club presentation of Why The Chimes Rang The story told awaited trip to the Cathedral to stay with an old Woman who wandered into the hut He gave up a chance to see the presenta t1on of many gifts at the Cathedral and perhaps even the ringing of the chlmes which sounded at the presentation of the perfect gift, given from the heart Suddenly, with the movement from the old woman, on the darkened stage appeared a solemn cathe dral with a choir composed of selected members of the Senior Glee Club, accompanied by Edith Humphrey on the organ While it sang many gifts were offered even the crown of the King, and still the chimes did not r1ng Then the priest came forward to accept the g1ft of a few pennies from the boy Small as the gift was lt was given with sincerity causing the chimes to ring The marvelous set is a tribute to Mr Cormsh and his hard working crew The beautiful stained glass windows were painted by Miss Palmer s accomplished art classes If the future Christ mas Assemblies can portray the spirit so well Bellows will always know the meaning of Christmas G Edelson B Morehouse B Thrasher D Fischer 58 . . . . , ,X ,' '- ' i - 4 -L ' GS ' 77 , of the true spirit of Christmas: A young boy gave up a long 1, y 1 1 r - . . . . The Dramatxcs Club under the dlrectxon of Mr Stanley Cornxsh, presented a new verslon of the well known three wxshes theme ln the drama The Monkey s Paw The story centers around a couple who have but one son They re celve from a fr1end played by Eugene Glancola a monkey s wlthered paw that was capable of grantmg three wlshes Though skeptxcal the old woman wlshes for a much needed sum of money They wart only a few hours before they are brought the news of thelr sons death and later on pald lnsurance amountlng to the same sum they had w1shed for Heartbroken, the old mother played by Judy Alter then wlshes her son, Donato Evangehsta back Whlle there lS a strange knockmg at the door the wlser father Ray Ph1l11ps frantlcally searches for the paw and WlSheS h1s son dead agam The knocklng stops and no one can be found when the door IS opened THE MONKEYS PAW THE MONKEYS PAW E Gxancola R Phllhps J Alter D Evangelxsta B R Phlllxps D Evangellsta Loughrane ,111 i At a Jomt Pep assembly precedlng the first basketball game of the year, the cheerleaders urged the students on to a sp1r1ted demonstra 1on Vlfhen Mary McN1ven xntroduced our mas cot a feroclous panther, the students were amu ed to greet her black puppy Sambo whose only roar was a frlghtened whlmper The new stage back drop of Bellows blue wlth the add1t1on of a rampant panther, the creatlon of Audrey H111 made a dramatlc background for the cheerleaders PEP ASSEMBLY G Jordan A Hill M 'VIC ,lg 'Q At the end of the football season Coach Has ley presented awards to jumor Vars1ty and Varsxty Football team members Dlck Lawrence was awarded a pm for three years servxce on the squad and a gold star s1gmfy1ng captamcy of the team On that occaslon Coach Hasley congratulated the members on the1r fine sports man like sp1r1t 1n every game although many tlmes the odds were overwhelmmgly agamst them Nlven S Goyne P Mann C0aCh Hasley R Lawrence if- , .
