First Row M J Downer R Relllmg E D1Lor1o L DeBaun A Mandracchla I Lerza Second Row G Battxpaglla M Morehouse A Sofia C Dufault E Rxgano Third Row J Stearman A Evangehsta Miss Bock J Haggerty G Morton THE CHARM SCHOOL Austm Bevans Davzd Mackenzie George Boyd Homer johns Elzse Benedottl M :ss Hays Mzss Curtis Sally Boyd Murzel Doughty Ethel Spelvm Alix M ercxer Lzllzan Stafford Madge Kent Dotsze CAST GEORGE MORTON JAMES HAGGERTY JOEL STEARMAN AURELIUS SOFIA ELSIE RIGANO MARIAN MOREHOUSE CLAIRE DUFAULT MARY JANE DOWNER RUTH REILLING GLORIA BATTIPAGLIA ELDA DILORIO IRENE LERZA ANNE MANDRACCHIA LAURA DEBAUN 24 Bellows Seniors Score Stage Hit In 'Charm School' Another senior play which would do credit to any Little Theater Group hereabouts was presented at Bellows High School last night when the Class of 1946 presented Alice Duer Miller's three-act com- edy Charm School The production ran smoothly from start to finish and vfas com pletely lacking m the stiffness and hesxtancy wh1ch usually char acterizes high school perform ances Under the direction of Miss Gretchen E Bock the play ers 1n most cases cast off the stage feeling' and really lived the story of the four young men who take over a girls boarding school which one of them had in herited and to the consterna tion of the school heads and the delight of the students undertake to teach them the things they need to know in order to become soft spoken feminine attractive young women in other words charm Elsie Rigano as the moonstruck girl who falls in love with Mr Bevans was appealing and con v1nc1ng and her fellow students Mary Jane Downer Ruth Rexllmg Gloria Battlpaglxa Elda D1Lor1o Irene Lerza and Anne Mandrac chla were natural and at ease especially when they occupied the stage as a class unit The girls were generally more convmclng and more audible than the boys but George Morton did a skillful and competent Job with the long part of the new owner of the school and James Hagger ty Joel Stearman and Aldo Evan gellsta made an ideal trio as they came to help run the school and to set the girls hearts palpxtat 1n Aurelius Sofia moustached and gray headed made a hving char acter of the financier and ex husband of the school mistress and Marian Morehouse as Miss Hays played a difficult part well managing to be both the strlet school ma arm and at the same time attractive enough to make her ex husband wish he had her back Laura DeBaun handled a bit part as the unpopular junior efficlently Acting honors for the evening go to Claire Dufault however for a masterful performance as the fluttery spmster Miss Curtis who IS carried along on every wave of emotion which sweep! the stage She maintained her naive but emphatic personalltv without a let down during the entire three acts and never left the play for an instant even when she had no lmes to speak A high standard of acting per formance has been established at Bellows and last mghts perform ance did nothing to dimmish it. l , - ' ' I l ..... ..... ..,... . . .
