ITORIA Commencement Graduationl Tl1e culmination of all our dreams of the past four yearsl We have fulfilled the expectations of some of those interested in us, but there are many more things for us to accomplish before all of the hopes vested in us will materialize. On the fifteenth of June we shall become alumni of Bellows Free Academy. No longer shall we be privileged to roam the corridors of a building that has been a part of our lives for four years. We are about to try our skill in the world at large. How we shall compare with those who already are acquainted with the bumps and ruts of life, only time will tell. This is the season of the year when stories are told of the romantic adventures awaiting those who, leaving school, are going forth into the world. The aim of every American graduate should be to be a good citizen. Nowhere else in the world does one have the privileges of the American and we should be proud enough of that fact to keep the standard of United States citizenship as high as possible. The prime requisite of a good citizen is understanding. With- out that factor the social and political status of America would be on a par with that of many of the foreign nations. So, with high hopes, we set out to see what the world holds in store for us, and it should be every graduate's vow that he will keep a level head so that he may clearly understand whatever con- fronts him in life. Appreciation The Mercury staff wishes to thank all those people and organ- izations who have helped to make this past year a success. We appreciate the Mercury pins and banquet given by the Parent Teachers Association, we thank the Messenger Company for its fine cooperation, and we are grateful to Miss McKenney for her help with the typing. The publication of this Senior issue of the Mercury has been in charge of Dwight Newland '38, editor during the past year. Its success is mainly due to his ingenious planning and his careful organizing of material. Special attention is called to the unique idea for the cover-thc green color is laid on white, and gold dust is put on by means of a second impression.
