ll EDITORIFlL- ll FOR SENIORS Now that graduation is drawing near with the fervor of preparation for the final ceremonies, the four years We anticipated to be so lengthy when our high school days began seem now to have been short. They seem almost too short to have given us time to learn any of the subjects and perhaps master. But all cases, more than what books. VVhat we should of ourselves and find out gained in all. we came here to study, we have learned and, in we have studied in text do now is to take stock exactly what we have we entered B. F. A. as Wildered and timid. lt was not long before we learned that all the older folks were not wild lndians intent on massacring us but really friendly people, ready at a moment's notice to leave their own duties and lead us puzzled freshmen to a lost room. Joined in in- terest, object and purpose we realized very quickly the first of all great lessons, friendship. We learned to be cordial and to treat other people as we had been treated. First of all when freshmen, we were be ln constant contact with the people around us We found out that we must be courteous. If we did not act toward other people as they had toward us but offended them, they would lose their respect for us and it would not be long be- fore they would positively ignore us. Courtesy calls for courtesy, and no one can afford to live without it. Respect for proper authority and rights came upon us quickly and now we know how to get along without the wild reckless freedom of those who can not obey the rules necessary for civil life. Few schools are ever maintained that do not give their students a chance to participate in athletics, music, and many other school activities. livery one of these activities has given us oppor- tunity to be a good player, a good loser or a good winner. lve have achieved leadership and learned to bear it with modesty. Never has any high school student been able to be haughty in his glory without losing his honor, because others can not stand his pride, and it is invariably their support that keeps him on the top pedestal. After attaining friendliness, courtesy, ever valuable truth, and faith in one another, We came to that great step that led us to the social side of l 12 school life. VVith all the lessons We have already learned, it is not hard to get together and have a good time with no signs of hesitation from former- ly shy and self-conscious people. We have come to the greatest and ever afterwards best re- membered gathering of all-Graduation! May we never forget the lessons that led us to it. Dresses Among the many activities of the school held every year is the dress contest entered by the Home liconomics classes. Some of the loveliest dresses ever made by the girls are made for this contest. No doubt it is the factor of competition that has induced them to use their greatest skill and precision from the choosing of the patterns to the sewing on of the last snap. Contests bring forth the best anyone has got, show him what he can do if he Wants to and lead him on to greater achievement. Enter a contest to test your skill. You will never regret it. Appreciation The Mercury staff wishes to thank all those people or organizations who helped to make this past year a success. VVe particularly wish to thank the Messenger Company for the cooperation it has given. Also we have appreciated the excel- lent work and cooperation of Miss Davidson, the typists, Sylvia Gould and Phyllis Chevalierg and lfdward Anderson for the time and Work he has put into making the Mercury a success. l
