SENIOR DEPARTMENT Class Poem I stood beside a golden wall VVith wondrous figures wrought with skill Upon its flashing sides, of men And symbols known through every age Because of their great wisdom proved. And in this wall there was a gate Half open, leading to I know Not where. I turned and saw a group Of boys and girls advancing. They Were trying to attain the wall. At times the way was difficult, And they were weary and were sad. At times the way was easier made, And they were filled with happiness. And as they came, they seemed to grow In statureg when they reached the gate They had become young men and women. The gate swung in and they passed through With eagerness. And then I heard Them say in disappointed tones, The way leads on still farther. Oh The road' of wisdom is too long And hard! Why must we strive the more ? And then I heard one say, The way Thus far was to prepare us for The greater journey. Come, let us Have strengthg let us go on, be wise. RHODA Fooo, Class Poet. 4
