SAMPLER BELLOWS FALLS UNION HIGH SCHOOL ATHENS, GRAFTON, ROCKINGHAM, WESTMINSTER DEDICATION Teaching is an art, but in order to teach, one must first learn. A teacher must convey his knowledge and understanding to those who are learning. Through his style, he taught us the history of mankind. Along with the facts, he presented (with hands on hips) many valuable insights into human nature. In addition to teaching in the classroom, he has been involved in coaching the ski team. After being taught by him, we can better appreciate education. We not only benefited from his knowledge, but we also learned about his dedication, understanding, and insight. In return for all you have done for us, we, the Class of 1978, gratefully dedicate our yearbook to you, Mr. Richard Farmer. r lading, writr lurselves A d friendships made that will nbver four Vars, B blossom an H to become, hrough Bver ■i. s planted a dream inside) our own ideas and come to go out jam, wily one journe r or va r WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED? 1. FACULTY Mrs. L. Adams Mr. R. Barret Mr. S. Bisbee Bellows Falls Union High School students take pride in things such as their carpeted classrooms, well-groomed athletic field, and large resource center, but they are also aware of another valuable asset — the teaching staff. With the help of the diversified faculty, knowledge is gained through both academic courses and extra- curricular activities. Mr. E. Bone Mr. W. Brys Mrs. J. Blacketor Mr. W. Burton Mr. W. Cinotti Mr. D. Clark In the classroom, the teacher employs a variety of teaching techniques to encour- age students to express thepiselves and their ideas. Group lectures, independent study programs, and open discussions are all used to meet the needs of each individ- ual student. No matter what the learning atmosphere, the students are encouraged to question and to voice their opinions. Mrs. C. Collins Mrs. B. Comtois Mr. F. Coyne Mr. R. Farmer Mr. G. Curcuru The students play an active role in choosing their high school curriculum, be it vocational, college preparatory, or business oriented. Due to the wide variety of programs, the faculty is able to provide the students with an education that will help them achieve their personal and career goals. Mr. M. Fawcett Ms. L. Fournier Mr. A. Gleason Mr. J. Hilliard Mr g Johngon Mr. D. Johnson The school’s open concept classrooms create a unique atmosphere. One of the primary objectives of the open concept system is to provide an environment for learning and personal growth. Students are encouraged to develop a sense of respon- sibility and independence, in both thought and expression. Mrs. K. Kendall Mr. L. Keefe Mr. M Kennedy Mr. D. LeDuc Mr. R. Lively Mr. J. McAuliffe Students from various educational and cultural backgrounds are grouped heteroge- neously in the classroom. The purpose of heterogeneous grouping is to avoid catego- rizing the student. An emphasis is placed on the individual, rather than on the class to which he or she belongs. The faculty feels that the intermingling of various types of students gives the students the chance to learn to understand and appreciate each other’s different interests. Mr. D. McElwee Mrs. M. Mansouri Mrs. J. Neumann Extracurricular activities play an important role in the students’ need to express themselves. Through these activities, the students learn much about themselves and others by experiences instead of through books. Extracurricular activities also pro- vide an opportunity to develop friendly, non-academic relationships with the facul- ty, who serve as coaches and advisors. Mrs. M. Orcutt Mr. P. Petty Mr. R. Pickering Mr. R. Rogers Mr. N. Russenello Mrs. M. Schultz We, the class of 1978, wish to extend our most sincere thanks to the faculty, who have succeeded in making Bellows Falls Union High School a school to be proud of. They have shown us that learning is truly an art in itself. Mrs. M. Wetherall Mr. R. Wyman Many student® find themselves turning to the guidance department for aid in choosing their cur- riculum. The counselors also help the students deal with matters pertaining to their own personal lives. Mr. H. Perkins Mr. L. Perry Another function of this department is to help juniors and seniors find appropriate colleges, along with finding financial assistance. For those students who are not college bound, the counselors help find suitable employment. The department also provides the high school students and the townspeople with high school courses, which are offered in the evening. Vocational education, offered by the surround- ing schools, is operated through the high school guidance department. Mr. G. Clark 65 Mrs. P. Buraczynski, Reading. Mr. L. Clark, Printing. Mrs. G.
