RH ETA BANGMA 'No goal too high for her to reachf Rheta, a quiet but talented girl, stands high in class achieve- ments. Born in the Netherlands, she came to America nine years ago, entering the third grade at Bellflower Chrisitan. Being a lover of sports, she participated in baseball in her freshman year, volleyball as a iunior, and was a member of the G.A.A. this year. Her noble ambition is to become a Christian school teach- er after attending Calvin Col' lege. 'V KENNETH BOOTSMA Theres a little bit of bad in every good boy. One of our twelve-year stu- dents, Kenneth has always gra- ciously shared with us his mu' sical talent. During each of his high school years, he was a member of the Glee Club and Male Quartet. As a sophomore, he was an active member of the Photography Club and the B Basketball Team. He led the iunior class as president, was vice-president of the Student Council, was on the Crusader Staff and was lead man in the Junior Play. Besides being class president in his senior year, he ably edited the T955 Crusader. He plans to take a pre-med course in college. i GERTRUDE Bos A pretty girl is like a melody. Gertrude came to our school from the Artesia public school while in the fourth grade. A friend of all, she has capably held many desired positions and leaves an enviable scholarship record. For three years she has represented our class in the Stu- dent Council and sang in the Glee Club. She was a member of the G.A.A. during her iunior and senior years and served as treasurer of this organization for the past year. Gert played vol- leyball while in her freshman year and basketball during the last two years of her high school days. She plans to work in a bank in the near future. , , 'X 7, -w., C.. r MARIANNE BOUMA A girl with a smile is a girl worth while. Marianne, a girl with a sweet personality, attended Bellflower Christian for eleven years. She has been a source of pleasure to her class with a friendly word and smile for everyone. Being interested in sports, she was on the volleyball team as a fresh- man and junior, on the baseball team when a junior, and the bas- ketball team as a senior. She sang in the Glee Club her first two high-school years. She be- longed to the Home Economics Club and Sewing Club. She was also with G.A.A. for two years. Her plans for the future are in- definite. IRMA JEAN BROEKEMA She's gentle and she's shy, still theres mischief in her eye. Irma Jean came to our school from Bozeman, Montana, and spent just her senior year with us. A comparatively new stu- dent to' Bellflower Christian, she is rather quiet, but we suspect she really is as full of fun as the rest. When you come to know her, you will discover her wil- lingness and ability to work hard. She is always reliable and cooperative. Her favorite pas- times are rollerskating and rid- ing-in motorboats, that is. She has done real well as a member of the Glee Club and as a mem- ber ofthe G.A.A. also. Her arn- bition is to secure an office or bank position. t.?- 'N r . i . x ...J SHARON BROE RSMA Here I am, you lucky people. Sharon, a mischievous blonde, is well known and well liked by all her classmates. Because of her pleasing personality she ac- quired many friends. She at- tended our school for twelve years. As a freshman she joined the Delta Gamma Club, as a sopho- more she became a member of the Gazette Staff, and as a jun- ior she belonged tothe Forensic Club. Her performance in the Junior Play will be well remem- bered. She sang in the Glee Club for the last three years and readily participated in the activi- ties of the G.A.A. for the past two years. Her plans for the fu- ture are indefinite. ,A-. 5 '26 ,Y PHYLUS DE JONG RAMONA DE VELDER HERMAN DOUMA There is no substitute for the genuine. Phyllis attended Bellflower Christian since the first grade and has been a real benefit to our class. As a freshman she was a member of the Crusaders Gazette Staff and volleyball team. While a sophomore she was on the Photography Club. She was president of the Sewing Club and a member of the G.A.A. during her third and fourth years of high school. As a senior she was class treasurer, G.A.A. secretary, and a member of the Annual Staff. She also went out for basketball and vol- leyball. She took the College- Preparatory Course, but her plans for the future are not defi- nite. Talk and laughter play an im- portant part in her life. Ramona, one of our twelve-yeah students, was a real favorite of our class. Besides going out for nearly all the sports, she has been a real asset to the Class of Fifty-five. During her freshman year she was president of her class and was on the Crusader's Gazette Staff. She sang in the Glee Club during the first two years of her high school career. As a member of the G,A.A. she served on several committees and worked hard to make each activity a success. She plans to work in a bank after graduation and later become a housewife. p 'R s.- X .... ...wi-.L Mm.: ' ff ' 'Q School is a necessary evil. Herman, well known to both teachers and fellow students for his inclinations toward all things musical and mischievous, at- tended Bellflower Christian for a little more than eleven years. During that time he took part in many activities. He was a mem- ber of the Male Quartet, the Band, and the Glee Club for all four years. He has made good use of his musical abilities and all have enioyed his singing and playing. When a junior, he served as class treasurer and played well his role in Seven- teenth Summer as the father of a happy family. A T-i , HERMINA DOUMA Personality, skill and ambition -the formula for success. Hermina, Herman's twin, is an- other one of our twelve-year stu- dents, although she was gone for part of her first year. Her athletic ability made her a pop- ular member of the volleyball team for three years and the G.A.A. for two years. Her sing- ing talents were used in the Glee Club for four years. While presi- dent of the Dionysians, she ac- quired the leading part in the successful Junior Play. Her abil- ity to type won her a position on both the Gazette and Cru- sader Staff. She intends to be- come an efficient office secretary after graduation. ,Wi O1 Q srl' Q . K .gm K' f ' Q i ,B Q X4' '13 A BARBARA ENGELHARD Full of fun and fancy free. Barbara came to us from Fre- mont School in Los Angeles and attended this school eight years. She is very interested in all ac- tivities and carries out her re- sponsibilities well. She was on the baseball team for three years, the basketball team for two years, and the volleyball team for two years. She sang in the Glee Club during all her high school years. During her iunior year she became a member of the Dionysians Club and Ga- zette Staff, and was an active and interested member of the G.A.A. for the past two years. Her plans for the future are in- definite, although she may at- tend college. -it CORNIE GOEDHA'RT Young fellows will be young fellows. Because he was always co-op- erative and attentive in class, Cornie was one of our more highly respected members. He was a member of the Glee Club during all four years and played his trumpet in the band for two years. During his sophomore year he played B Basketball, then played A Basketball during his iunior and senior years. Baseball was another of the ac- tivities in which he took part during his last two years. Cornie plans to follow in his father's footsteps in the future and be- come u successful dairyman. 'W .. , W .. . ,.., -.Q DWAYNE KAMPHUIS Never let studies interfere with your education. Our Dwayne attended this school since the first grade. He is an all-around athlete and a pal nd good sport among his friends. More than once he made the winning score for Bell- flower Christian High, In all his high school years he played bas- ketball and, during the last three, he played football too, and we must not leave out the last two hard-playing years of baseball! His plans for the fu- ture are indefinite but as long as Dwayne is around there will be to do. gif! -r-r'1'l JO ANN KRUIDHOF 'Short and Sweet Jo Ann, our smallest senior, re- ceived all her education at Bell- flower Christian. Her pleasant and radiant smiles have been cheering to all who have known her. For three years she sang in the Glee Club and in her sopho- more year she was an active member of the Delta Gamma Club. As a junior, she partici- pated in the Junior Play. This year she played on the girls' basketball and volleyball teams, and was a member of the G.A.A. during her junior and senior years. Her ambition is to secure an office or banking po- sition, ,Y LEWIS MENSONIDES He's a friend to both work and' play. Lewis, known to most of us as Louey, came to Bellflower Christian High from the Nether- lands two years ago. He soon had many friends in his newly adopted country because he has a quick wit and is always ready for fun ancl a good time. Al- though he misses school quite often, he usually comes out with top grades. He claims that the schools in Holland are much more difficult and homework more plentiful. Ralph, a swell friend and class- mate, left the Netherlands and migrated to America. After at- tending several eastern schools, Bellflower Christian was chosen as the place for his high school education. Although not partici- pating in many activities, he has always been around to enjoy the fun. ln the classroom, there is room for work, and a little time for mischief to relax the mind. Getting into trouble is not his hobby but he always seems to be around when it's there. After graduation, he plans to attend college. Each one who knows Rose knows that her crowning beauty is her beautiful red hair. She has the spunk and alertness which usually accompanies it. Rosalie came to us seven years ago from Lynden Christian School. During her sophomore year, she was a member of the Delta Gamma Club. As for hobbies, going to games is about her pet one, not to say anything about the boys who might take her. During the last two years in high school she was a member of the G.A.A. She would like to be a nurse's aide. 'I WINNIE VAN DAM A live wire is never stepped OD. The live wire of the senior class, Winnie has a fun-loving nature and usually goes into hiding when mischief is discov- ered. Her stature is small, but she is all there. She sang in the Glee Club for four years and this year she was its secretary. Her plans are not definite but she wants to attend college. SAM WYBENGA Good people are scarce, take care of me. Undescribable Sam received all of his education at Bellflower Christian. If any class became dry or uninteresting, there was Sam supplying humorous enter- tainment. He was a real inspira- tion to our class during our par- ties and supplied much of the fun. As a sophomore, he was a representative to the Student Council, and as a senior he was elected Student Body treasurer. In his last year of high school, Sam served as the capable pres- ident of the Varsity Club. He was a prominent football player during his last three years.
