O,BRIEN. 7 FOOTBALL At the beginning of the season there were thirty men reporting for practice. The prospect for a good team seemed doubtful, but due to the hard work and determined spirit of the boys and the splendid coaching of Mr, Jimmy Edwards, Bellevue enjoyed a very successf'ul season, losing only one game, which was lost to Donelson by one point. History repeated itself when we again played Donelson for fourth position in the play-off of the Nashville Interscholastic League. . Fred Perkerson was captain of the team and played a great part in the games won by his team. Among the seniors to bid farewell to high school football are Fred Perkerson, Van Grizzard, Joe Collier, Robert Megling, Elton Hulan, Charles Smith, Charles Vaupel, Paul Gassaway, Evans Tucker, and Johnny Horton. 7 BASKETBALL Bellevue High opened its basketball season with seven lettermen returning for the boys and six for the girls. The girls, with Anna Friedli as captain, won 12 games, tied 2 and lost 2. In the district tournament, minus the services of Sara Sexton, Owl Guard, the team lost by 2 points. The leading girl scorer of the Bellevue Owlettes was Mary Castleman, junior forward, with a total of 225 for the entire year. Willie Smith, senior, with a total of 140 points was the high-point maker for the Owls. Lucille Austin, guard, was on the All-City team for the second successive yearg Anna Friedli, center, made the Second All-City team. The following boys and girls will not be back next year: Boys- Captain Fred Per- kerson, Willie Smith, Elton Hulan, and Homer Maynardg Girls-Anna Friedli and Lucille Austin. Page Twenty
