The girls' acTiviTies began wiTh a PING-PONG Tourney conducTed in single-eIiminaTion Tashion. ATTer Three weeks oT TranTic swishing oT paddles and dizzy bobbing of balls, Jacque- line Lepley emerged as school singles champion, while Joyce I-leilman and Mary Louise I-lerbel Tool: The doubles honors. The BADMINTON Tourney was conducTed in The same manner. Mary Louise I'-'lerbel cap- Tured The school singles championship: and parTners, Joyce I-'leilman and Mary Louise T-lerbel, Took The doubles championship. BASKETBALL is sTiIl a TavoriTe. Seven Teams appeared Tor baTTle, boasTing such names as The Green Gamblers, The Six Dames, The Jeeps. The Slopp Joes. The BaslceTTs, The Screw- balls, and The Whirlwinds. The TournamenT was held in roundirobin sTyle. The Tinal play-oTT beTween The Jeeps and The Sloppy Joes, each oT whom had won 4 ouT of 4 games, resulTed in vicTory Tor The Sloppy Joes, who came ouT on The long end oT a 7 To I I score. The Sloppy Joe Team, a Tour-year winner, was made up oT Mary Louise Herbel. capTain, Joyce I-leilman, Connie Meesig, BeTsy WrighT, BeTh I-lanlcammer, Peggy Kirwan, Rose Gerber, Evelyn Cooper, and Jacqueline Lepley. Two all-sTar Teams were seIecTed: Joyce I-leilman, capTain, Jean I-leilman, BeTh I-lankammer. Marjorie Doane, Jacqueline Young, Connie Meesig, Rose Gerber, Josephine ViTello: and Mary Louise I-lerbel, capTain, Eleanor BurneTT, Donna Andrews, Connie Connors, Mary Suri- ano, Annie ViTelIo, CharloTTe Bingel, and BeTsy WrighT. Jacqueline Young and CharloTTe Bin- gel are The only Treshmen who received This honor. i BOWLING was inTroduced here This spring. Using The TaciIiTies oT The bowling alley up-Town, Teams bowled Two nighTs a weelc aTTer school. Warm spring weaTher Tound many girls wiTh baTs and balls playing games of soTTbalI. SWIMMING is also included in The curriculum oT girls' aThleTics. AIThough noT as exTensive as oTher sporTs, iT aTFords many pleasanT hours To The gym classes. G. A. A. G.A.A. acTiviTies were somewhaT diTferenT This year. Girls pa'rTicipaTing in inTramural ac- TiviTies receive poinTs which enable Them To become members oT G.A.A. PoinTs vary accord- ing To The acTiviTy. EighTy poinTs are required Tor membership, one-hundred and TiTTy enTiTIe a girl To a pin, and Two hundred and TiTTy poinTs gain a leTTer award.
