GIRLS' ATHLETICS VOLLEYBALL was carried on as a homeroom conTesT insTead oT wiTh all-girl Teams. The girls of II7 did a good job oT helping To bring The championship To Their home room. The girls' acTiviTies began wiTh a PING-PONG Tourney conducTed in single-eIiminaTion Tashion. ATTer Three weeks oT TranTic swishing oT paddles and dizzy bobbing of balls, Jacque- line Lepley emerged as school singles champion, while Joyce I-leilman and Mary Louise I-lerbel Tool: The doubles honors. The BADMINTON Tourney was conducTed in The same manner. Mary Louise I'-'lerbel cap- Tured The school singles championship: and parTners, Joyce I-'leilman and Mary Louise T-lerbel, Took The doubles championship. BASKETBALL is sTiIl a TavoriTe. Seven Teams appeared Tor baTTle, boasTing such names as The Green Gamblers, The Six Dames, The Jeeps. The Slopp Joes. The BaslceTTs, The Screw- balls, and The Whirlwinds. The TournamenT was held in roundirobin sTyle. The Tinal play-oTT beTween The Jeeps and The Sloppy Joes, each oT whom had won 4 ouT of 4 games, resulTed in vicTory Tor The Sloppy Joes, who came ouT on The long end oT a 7 To I I score. The Sloppy Joe Team, a Tour-year winner, was made up oT Mary Louise Herbel. capTain, Joyce I-leilman, Connie Meesig, BeTsy WrighT, BeTh I-lanlcammer, Peggy Kirwan, Rose Gerber, Evelyn Cooper, and Jacqueline Lepley. Two all-sTar Teams were seIecTed: Joyce I-leilman, capTain, Jean I-leilman, BeTh I-lankammer.
