El. 4' i s -',i-1'--1 el ' ffl XA S Paul King, Dave Havel, Pat Manrose, Bill Woordrow, Terry Jack, Woody Dismu ke, Jim McCracken, Gary Thrasher, Dave Scholz, Lenord Kaslon, and Ron Moss. aolzetlvall Playing an eighteen game schedule for the first time in many years, the Fighting Chieftains of Bellevue High completed the i958-59 season with a six win-twelve loss record. Despite having a losing season the team en- ioyed a full season of cheering Pep Clubs, rout- ing student bodies, and close, exciting games. ln the first game of the Ak-Sar-Ben Tourna- ment, held in the Chieftain gym, Bellevue played their arch rival and defending Conference Champ- ions, Plattsmouth. From the sound of the first whistle, Bellevue took the ball and led all the way to a 60-53 victory. lr1l958 Omaha Holy Name defeated the Chiefs by some SO points, but the defending Class A State Champions had a surprise in for them when -347 the host team iBellevuej took the lead four diff- erent times. With 3 minutes and 30 seconds left in the game the Fighting Chieftains held the State Champs, to follow by only two points for a morale building 39-37 loss. Game Captain Bill Woodrow sank a free throw in the last two seconds to put the seal on a 36- 35 win over Fairbury. For his ball-handling and the winning point Bill was named the Star of The Week by the Omaha World Hearld. Pat Manrose's long shots, Terry Jack's cor- ner shots, Bill Woodrow's rebounding, Gary Thras- her's free throws, Woody Dismuke's iumps, and coach Wood's scribbled signals on his blackboard will all bring back memories of the i958-59 bas- ketball season.
