r. Frank Paustain Vice Principal One of the few people who come in contact with every dimension of school life is Mr. Frank Paustain, our vice- principal. He is a disciplinarian, to be sure, but his respon- sibility has many other dimensions. He is in charge of athletics, attendance policies, student schedules, report cards, and various other tasks. Mr. Paustain was born in Portland, Oregon, where he attended the University of Portland on an athletic scholarship. His teaching and coaching career began in Stevenson, Washingtong then he moved on to Seattle where he taught at O'Dea High Schooll Besides having conducted courses in history, economics, and sociology, he also has coached basketball, baseball and football. When not busy with his students Mr. Paustain enjoys fishing, gardening, and camping with his wife and four boys. Here at Bellevue Mr. Paustain is able to help students build a foundation for their future. His richest reward is the student who comes back and says thank you for the discipline and counseling he received in high school.

UPPER OFFICE: Mr. William Mattick, Mr. .loseph Hylland, Mr. Myron Earnst, Mr. Bryan Lawrence, Mrs. Alice Kolb, Dr. ,lohn Brubacher, Mr. Donald Michey, Dr. Roy Wahle, Miss Patricia Foster, Dr. Merle Landerholm. Message To Students From Dr. Brubacher Dr. Brubacher SCHOOL BOARD: Mr. Axel Jolin, Mr. Donald Nordstrom, Mrs. Ruth Morrell, Dr. Fernley Duey, Mr. David Douglas. 1-1 F if 1 t i 5 t 1+ t ' 4 1 ir: 1 , . 7 I r t l Al' l . i Taken literally, DIMENSIONS are measurements This elastic word easily extends itself, like a folding hardstick, to include the magnitude or scope of human life. Each day life will confront you with decisions which will measure you in terms of your maturity, judgment, character and values. How you 'measure up' depends upon the standards of society, your family, and your friends, and more important, their influence upon the standards you make your own. These standards often conflict, yet are two sides of the same coin. Suddenly, without warning, they may challenge you to assume gigantic dimensionsg generally they will grow with you slowly and cautiously. Your character will not only be the outgrowth but also the tempering agent of these challenges. Your own individual Lmeasuring up' is the most impor- tant, daysby-day decision you can make. Churchill during the battle of Britain . . . Schweitzer in Africa . . . Kennedy at the Bay of Pigs . . . an athlete in defeat . . . a human being measuring himself and being measured. Only the individual knows the true magni- tude of his dimensions. ln Hamlet, Polonius advised his son, Laertes, Wllhis above all-to thine own self be true, And, it must follow as the night the day, Thou canst not then be false to any man. Dr. ,lohn Brubacher
