Kou did th ? year go in song, fads, and activities? People wore what they felt comfortable in. Designer je ans, dresses of all lengths, and a variety of shoes lined the hallways. Some people dressed as the “Urban Cowboy while others turned “preppy.” Buttons, which proclaimed love for a favorite group, school, or saying, were tacked on jackets and shirts. Disco slowly moved out as punk rock and new wave worked its way in. Dieting, jogging, and exercise classes became regular habits. This was all part of our life. 18 Daily Routine

bulletins gipc notices of events cm3 instructions to all “It has been brought to our attention that high school students are loitering in Bellevue and other area parks during school hours. In addition, some of our students have been returning late to school after spending their lunch hours in the park. ” BTHSW Administration “Belleville West [and East ] will be reluctant to dismiss school because of bad weather. How¬ ever, if school will not be in session, the announcement will be made via radio stations WIBV, 1260 and WMRY, 101, as early as possible the mornings of very adverse weather. ” Mr. Jerry Turner “Expressing affection is, or at least should be a very personal thing. To express in public in an extremely physical way your presumably sincere feelings for another person suggests either that you don’t care what impression others might get of the person you care about or that you ' re so immature you can’t keep yourself in control. This conduct should be handled by your own maturity and your respect for the person you care for. ’’ “Because of the bottleneck in traffic at the east door of the Main Building, the east door is designated for in and up only traffic, and the west entrance is designated for out and down only traffic. ’’ BTHSW Administration Daily Routine 17

Tl|is election ?ear brought politics home to our campus 1. In November, Ronald. Reagan was elected as a Republican to the position of President of the United States. On March 30, he was struck by an assas¬ sin’s bullet, but recovered to carry on with the responsibilities of his office. 2. President Jimmy Carter, a Democrat, was defeated by a landslide in his bid for reelection. 3. Alan Dixon, the Democrat candidate for the United States Senate, and Dave O’Neal, his Republican opponent, used the Auditorium as the setting for the fourth of their state-wide debates. In November, Alan Dixon became the first native of Belleville to be elected to the Senate. Mr. Dixon and Mr. O’Neal are both graduates of our high school and were met by a large and enthusi¬ astic hometown audience on their return to the campus. Current Events 19
