Ten weeks of the freshman year was de¬ voted to the study of health. Then came the first step into adulthood— drivers’ education! During the semester the aspiring driver spent time in classroom instruction for highway safety, with the simulator, and then, behind the wheel! After completion of the course, the future driver should be ready for proper handling of a car. Mrs. Pott Snelson ' s 6th hour P.E. class stretched in the warm afternoon sun. Having choreographed her own floor routine, lynn Muren performed it in front of her class. The warning signs of cancer were the topic of discussion in health classes. Freshman girls executed their skills in volleyball. Exercise for physical and mental health The greatest lesson learned in physical education was cooperation. In gym classes the individual became part of a team. Quick thinking and coordination were essen¬ tial in a range of sports such as soccer, field hockey, badminton, tumbling, weightlifting, and tennis. P.E. was an outlet for the everyday routine. After all, what would the day be without a cold locker room and an even colder shower? Cooch Carr shows the girls how to leap over the hurdles. 28 Physical Education

Board exercises helped students in Music Theory. Whether one could sing or not there was someplace for him in music. Freshmen girls’ and mixed chorus, sophomore girls’ and mixed chorus, merri tones, girls’ glee, the choralettes, the choraleers, various ensembles, and the concert choir were our vocal groups. Instrumental groups consisted of the or¬ chestra, the chamber orchestra, the sympho- nette, the cadet band, the stage band, and the marching band.
