Mechanical drawing requires a lot of special drawing utensils. Welding is a class in which a person can create his metallic dreams. Machine shop calls for some close studies of the equipment. Shop classes help pave a better road for the future... The paper, gasoline, and oil shortages have affected many people this past year. However West did not suf¬ fer as much from these shortages as from our own short¬ ages. In the shop classes the only shortage was the lack of machinery in contrast to the number of willing stu¬ dents. However, once in the shop classes the students did not lack enthusiasm and interest in learning new skills. From the beginning courses in general shop, shop math, and vocational agriculture to advanced courses in architectural design, electricity and mechanics, students were trained in skills for the future as well as for the present. 24 Shop

As problems arose, so did the student-teacher relationship. Students found the formulas harder than they had expectedl Students needed to know basic principles before attempting higher math. Math poses problems Math with its formulas, theorems, and statistics in¬ trigued the mind and helped one to reason. In courses from the freshman to the senior level students worked problems which ranged from figuring the price of gro¬ ceries to operating high speed computers. Architectural drawing presents both problems and enjoyment. Wood shop provided new furniture pieces for collection. Shops were busy The industrial classes taught skills for the present as well as for the future. Auto shop helped keep auto repair bills down and cars in good shape. Wood shop students made furniture, such as bookcases, gunracks, jewelry boxes, and bird houses. Shop classes taught something for everyday living. With the help of teachers, students learned the meaning of team work. While some had problems in auto shop others laughed them off. Shop 25
