Civics classes were marked by the traditional newscast, done here by Kathy Jordon. Social studies helped us to meet and deal with personal and social adjustment. In freshman civics and senior government courses we learned about the democratic processes. Juniors had a choice of ten-week history courses, ranging from colonial life to nuclear age. Upperclassmen studied the be¬ havior of society and of man as an individual in sociology and psychology. 18 Social Stuilies

Mr. Tweston and his ecology class studied ways to preserve nature. The second floor of the Science-Library Building was a busy place. Students worked bard on experiments and projects, with chem¬ istry students constantly surprised by the out¬ come of their experiments. Physics students studied the laws of nature while those in ecology learned the use of nature, from catching fish to recognizing different types of leaves. George Sotiropoulos used his talents in dissecting a fetal pig. Physics students worked with electronic equipment. In anatomy students learned parts and functions of the body. Sciences 17

Being a student in a Famous Americans class meant writing many papers. Various projects of social studies students were displayed throughout the school. Tomorrow’s answers in yesterday and today Showing a deep concern in the world, many students worked together to improve their environment. In addi¬ tion to the annual civics class drive for a needy family, this Christmas the classes in American problems raised money for the one hundred neediest families in the area, a fund sponsored by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Money came from bake sales, a volleyball marathon lasting ten hours, and a ballon-blowing contest. They solved at least one small problem by donating a total of four hundred dollars to the lund. Studying with the use of head phones were Mike Knave, Wade Wilkin, and Bill Hoffeditz. Social Studies 19
