YNCNICSWIAW1 James Gamiao, f ui: Q 4 Command Master Chief, Mega- USS BELLEAU WOOD QLHA 31 -E 5- 1 Master Chief Gamiao was bominjanuary 1952,inthe Republic ofthe 9 S Philippines. He enlisted in the Navy in January 1973 and attended Recruit Training in San Diego, California. Following basic training, he V reported aboard USS AMERICA fCV 661 where he made two cruises to the Mediterranean. In May 1975, he completed Yeoman A School at L ff Naval Technical Training Center Meridian, Mississippi where he gradu- W .fusing I .f A .sf fTei'i5' ated meritoriously. Wien' 4 . In November 1976, Master Chief Gamiao was transferred to the 53 ArmedForcesExaminationandEntranceStationinLosAngeles, Califor- ' U X nia. In February 1981,he reported aboard USS LOCKW OOD IFF 10641 homeportedat Yokosuka,Japan wherehe servedasthesl1ip'ssecretary. He was promoted to Chief Petty Officer September 16, 1983. In May 1984, he was ordered to the Staff of Commander in Chief, U.S. Pacific Fleet Human Resource Management Support Division. During his tour, he eamed his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree from Wayland Baptist University. In January 1988, following a six-month tour as a student at the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy in Fort Bhss, Texas, Master Chief Gamiao reported to the Staff of Commander, Carrier Group 7, as Assistant Flag Secretary. He made three Western Pacific, Indian Ocean and Persian Gulf deployments aboard USS NIMITZ CCVN 681, USS MIDWAY QCV 411, and USS RANGER fCV 611 for operation DESERT STORM. Master Chief Gamiao reported aboard USS CLEVELAND CLPD 71 as Command Master Chief in March 1991. Soon after reporting on CLEVELAND,he deployed to the Western Pacific, Indian Ocean, Persian Gulf and made two South Pacific cruises including four Panama Canal transits. In October 1997, Master Chief Gamiao took on the duties as USS ESSEX CLI-ID 21 Command Master Chief. Duringhis tour, he deployedto the Western Pacilic, Indian Ocean and Persian Gulf. Shortly after returning from deployment he took on the challenge of first LHDILHA to successfully complete DPMA at N ASSCO in San Diego, California. InJuly 2000 Master Chief Gamiao deployed to Sasebo, Japan to perform the N avy's largest hull swap with USS BELLEAU WOOD CLHA 31, the most challenging and successful ever. Maintenance Administration performs all administrative functions for the department. Here, all the correspondence is typed, routed, and filed. Production Control coordi- nates and controls the mainte- nance effort. Material Control orders and receives test equipment and other non-aircraft repairables. Quality Assurance!Technical Publication Library is the watch-dog, monitoring the maintenance effort to ensure safe, correct maintenance pro- cedures are used to obtain the highest quality workmanship. IM-2 Division provides hardware and maintenance to the ship's aircraft, enabling them to carry out their mis- sions. Sailors and Marines are the most important tools in the seven work centers which support the embarked squad- rons.
