Captain W. Lee Harris, Jr. Commanding Officer Captain W. Lee Harris, Jr. was born in Jacksonville, llonda, the first son of Ward and Tot Harris. He attended Terry Parker High School and was a graduate of the United States Naval Academy Class of 1974. Captain Harris ' sea assignments include duty in USS HEP- BURN (FF-1055), USS SARATOGA (CV-60), USS TALBOT (FFG-4), USS PENSACOLA (LSD-38), USS SPIEGEL GROVE (LSD-32), USS COMSTOCK (LSD-45), USS AUS- TIN (LPD-4), and on the staff of Amphibious Group Two. While in command of USS COMSTOCK, the ship won the coveted 1993 Marjorie Sterrett Award as the best ship in the Pacific Fleet. He also served as the interim Commanding Officer in USS AUSTIN. Shore assignments include duty as an NROTC instructor at Jacksonville University, as a student at the Army War Col- lege in Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania, Chief Staff Officer at Amphibious Sc uadron Ten in Little Creek, Virginia, and on the Chief of Naval Operations staff, Logistics Plans and Policy Strategic Sealift Division in Washington, D.C. Cap- tain Harris earned his MBA degree at the University of North Florida in 1981. Captain Harris ' awards include the Legion of Merit, Merito- rious Service Medal (three awards). Navy Commendation Medal (two awards). Navy Achievement Medal, Meritori- ous Unit Citation, and various unit awards. Captain Harris is married to the former Jeannie Weber Ben- nett of Jacksonville, Florida. They have four children: Lenn, George, Kristina, and Ron. Introduction
