Gridders Give Fans Exciting Season The gridder season kicked off with a disappoint- ing 17-7 loss to Delano, but the next Friday night they got on the winning track by defeating Fari- bault, 34-12. Joe Buesgens kicked a 27 yard field goal to make the conference opener a thrilling 16-13 overtime victory over the Le Sueur Giants. This victory gave the Tigers the honor of keeping the Pop Flynn plaque for the fourth straight year. Numerous penalities during the Jordan game held the Tigers to a 22-15 defeat. A hard fought battle against Montgomery found the Tigers coming out on top again Followed by victories over Le Center, Arlington, Norwood, and Mankato Loyola. The ability to win the close game was obviously the reason the Belle Plaine Tiger football team won five of their seven conference games within a touchdown. The seven wins and two losses made the Tigers the conference champs for the third straight year and co-champions along with Jordan in the Minnesota River Conference. Based on their leadership and ability, Tony James, Paul Fo- garty, Joe Buesgens, and Jerome Bahr were voted to the All-Conference team. Doug Henderson and Jerry Keup were named Honorable Mention.
