After Rg. cruit Training he attended Radar Operator School at Point Loma, San Diego, was stationed aboard the USS CLARFJN. DON KAPA-72D and the USS EPCEKRJ 857. In February of 1947 he attended GCA School in Olathe, Kansas, where he changed his rate to AC2. Duty as an Air Controlman in- cluded NAS Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, 19l8th AACS, Rhien Main AFB, Frankfurt, Germany, NAS Port Lyautey, French Morocco, and NAS, St. Louis, Missouri. In 1955 he received orders to Officeris Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island. He was commissioned ENSIGN, USN, in September, 1955. LT Hobbs holds the following awards and medals: Good Con- duct medal QZJ, Asiatic-Pacific Area with one bronze star, American Area, China Service, WW II Victory,LNavy Occupa- tion with Airlift Device, Humanitarian Award, and National Defense. LT Hobbs married Patricia Ann Poole of Carterville, Ill., in 1952. LT and Mrs. Hobbs have three children: Cassandra Lee, 10, Deborah Lynn, 9, and Steven Leonard, 2. W. L. At almost any time fexcept underway, of coursel, you'll find Seamen from First Division hard at work on a stage over the side, life jackets donned, scrubbing, chipping or paint- ing away. lf not over the side, First Division men may be found turning to in any of their many spaces-O2 Deck or anywhere along the starboard wingwall or starboard passageway main deck. SN, Chaney, SA, Murphy, SA, Shook, SN, Brown, BM2, Welteke, BM2, Fleming, SN, LTfjgP Appicelli, Ship's Boat- swain, Third Row: Black, SA, Lowe, SA, Price, AN, Matlock SN, Slade, SA, Cummings, SN, Crawford, SA, Teams, BM3 First Division also claims the USS BELLE GROVE White Hat of the Year for 1963. Last year Teames, BM3, was chosen as the most all-around, squared-away sailor aboard the BELLE GROVE. This is probably one of the hardest' working Divisions aboard the ship, frequently turning to from sunrise to sunset, keeping ahead of the rust and corrosion which accumulates so rapidly.
