675141 cyiatozy We, the class of 1951, stepped on the first rung of the ladder in the fall of '39. There are 56 of us, of which 19 started in the first grade and stayed all 12 years. These loyal supporters include: Bennett, Busfield, Cooper, Durr, Fowler, Frost, Graham, Han- ify, Hannah, Heebink, Howell, Norlin, Pfleger, Riley, Sigman, Sloan, Smiley, Smith and Thomas. FRESHMEN As Frosh we were the first class that was allowed to enter BFHS with the dig- nity befitting our new position--we were not initiated. Registration of rural students raised our number to 96, which may account for the fact that we won the 'Jug' twice. This, our first year,'we elected Joan Graham, President. SOPHOMORES As Sophs the girls shared the job with the boys of wrapping the B', which to our pride and joy, burned longer than any other. Our Bronc Day float took top honors, tying with the Juniors for first. We sponsored'a Sophomore Carnival in February which turned into a smash success. Dan Hejde was Class President. JUNIORS And here came the year which made us all realize the meaning of the word work. We followed the usual custom of selling refreshrnents at the football games. We undertook selling magazines to finance the Prom and Banquet, topping all previous years by hitting the S2100 mark. The presentation of our class play, 'We Shook the Family Tree, was given in Januaryg it was so well-liked, a repeat performance was given by popular demand. Dan Hejde, our Junior Student-Council rep., was elected to serve as President of the Council for 49-50. The midnight oil really burned as we work- ed on the Prom and Banquet. Streamers had to be hung, flats painted, and a thousand other things had to be done before the final finish. We promoted Student Government Day by nominating Senior candidates and putting on a vigorous campaign. which included a political 'convention' with spee ches, bathing beauties, and bands and finally a down-- town parade. Much of the credit of a successful year belongs to our Junior President, John Kirk. SENIORS At last we became usuperiorf' Seniors. Wanda Howell and George Patenode were crowned Queen and Marshall for our Homecoming Royalty. We proved ourselves to be the wealthiest class when we elected our senior reps., Judy Busfield and Dwain Rish, as King and Queen of Hearts for the February Valentine dance. As our last class Pres- ident, we elected George Patenode. There were many sleepless nights for the Annual staff members who had to meet a March 1 deadline and were busy putting out one with more pages, a fancier cover, and more features, making the 1951 Bronc better than ever. Thursday night, May 24, 56 of us received the biggest surprise of all--our dip- lomas. The fact that we are now alumni of BFHS is hard to believe and all of us are going to miss it and all the fun we've had. We feel that we have left behind a commend- able record and hope that each of us continues to do so in the future. 22
