So rhomores They came timidly up the hill in September, l948. looking tere ribly small and scared, and giving promise of nothing better than getting under everybody's feet, which they did, They came back again in September, l949, some a good half foot taller, and all of them a great deal wiser with the experience of a year on the hill. Immediately they turned up everywhere'-in sports, in the various clubs. and in dramatic productions, Not in the back seats, either, but often in important positions and occasion- ally in top places. There were sophomores doing great work on the debate team1 sophomores starred in the operetta, and their blackened faces sang out in rows at the Minstrel show: the soph basketball team fought its way to city championship, and two members of this class stepped into editorial positions on the school paper. ln addition to all this, the second-year men maintain an enviable scholastic record, thus proving that school activities should not and need not crowd out the books. Bellarmine can expect great things from these lads during the next two years W 'A-I !- J 6 Q

Freshnwn During eight strife ridden years, the one consolation embedded in the very soul of a student is that he might enter, at last, after graduation from the grades, into the vast domain of a high school. Then that first year, as all first years, fills the class with great enthus iasm and ambition for school activities Why? Because the Frosh feel separated and uncertain of their steps in this new life, and each has the desire to be. as they say, one of the boys Later in the year we find the glowing anxiety lulled and replaced by a sophisticated Hknowfit-all attitude. The atomic age has brought a new kind of class to Bellarmine4Tl-lE ATOMIC FROSHfffull of the same kind of boundless energy that character- izes the age They have already shown that energy in a willingness to dig in and contribute to the well-being of their school, and they give promise of touching off a blast of school spirit such as has rarelyibeen seen. Q . . . ' To them Bellarmine can only saye -keep it up, as we know you will, and 3 we hope that the coming Frosh will follow your example toward building a 3 better Bellarmine. jx Officers of the Freshman class were Charles Miller, Duane Hart, Ted 3 qf, Verner, Tom Murphy, Mike Dougherty, Pat Quinn, Joe McCavick, Larry 'ix Kelly, and Ronald Van Eycke NX ix 'tw A 1 Y I..
