Qualls, reading the plays of the opposition as they came out of the huddles, was the key to the Bell defense that allowed its opponents an average of a field goal per game. With his quick football mind and fast reactions, he often bodily moved his mates in position just before the ball was snapped. During the season, Qualls recovered four fumbles from his linebacking position and got the big one which set up Bells only touchdown in a 7-6 squeaker decision over tough league rival, Roosevelt High. Qualls is surprisingly quiet, unassuming, almost bashful, off the gridiron. His good character and leadership abilities are unquestioned. As an offensive center, Qualls doesn't know the meaning of a bad snap, never experiencing one in almost 600 times of handling the ball. HES THE BEST. an i i
