Chaplain McHorse was born in San Saba, Texas on May 11, 1931. Having acquired his primary and secondary education in the com- munity, he entered Howard Payne College, Brownwood, Texas graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in August, 1957. He graduated in january 1964 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He was commissioned a LTjg in the U.S. Navy on july 2, 1964 and was sent to the Newport, Rhode Island Chaplain School. He has been deployed to Vietnam twice, first with the 3rd Marine Division and se- cond as Circuit Rider Chaplain for Naval Support Activity, Saigon. Chaplain McHorse is the BELKNAP'S first regularly assigned ship's chaplain and has been onboard for two years. Chaplain McHorse is married to the former Thelma Nell Walker of San Saba, Texas.
