CDR. james E. Law Executive Officer Commander james E. Law was born in Newark, New jersey. He attended Washington and Lee University and was commissioned as an Ensign in the ROC Program upon graduation in june 1957. His initial assignment was with the Office of Naval Intelligence in Washington D.C. as a Port and Maritime Facility Analyst. His first sea duty was the USS IOHN R. PERRY KDE- 1034J where he served as CIC OfficerfCom- munications Officer before fleeting-up to the billet of Operations Officer in june 1960. Following that tour he was assigned as Ex- ecutive Officer of USS EXULANT QMSO-4411 from February 1961 to june 1962. After completion of the One Year Science Curriculum at the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, LT Lawswas retained in the Naval Warfare Department Staff as an instructor in CIC and Naval Tactics until March 1965. His next sea assignment was as Operations Officer in USS DAHLGREN KDLG- 12D. In November 1966, LCDR Law was assigned as Executive Officer in USS AULT IDD-6981 and he saw action in the Vietnam Conflict during a seven month WESTPAC deployment. In lune 1968 LCDR Law was again assigned to Postgraduate School where he earned a Master of Science degree in Personnel Management. Following graduation in june 1969, LCDR Law was assigned to the Bureau of Naval Personnel in the Active Officer Promo- tion Plans Branch where he served until February 1972. Following the Washington tour, CDR Law was assigned to the BELKNAP as Ex- ecutive Officer in May 1972. Commander Law is married to the former Betty George of Brunswick, Georgia. They have two children, jimmy and Cindy, and reside at the Naval Amphibious Base in Little Creek.

WK time 233 X JK RGPPIQER Captain Robert L. Walters was born in Oblong, Illinois and enlisted in the Navy in 1944. He later entered the U.S. Naval Academy and graduated with the class of 1949. He saw action during the Korean War in the Battleship MISSOURI. Following a tour in USS KEPPLER CDD-7657 he attended the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School at Monterey, California where he specialized in ordnance engineering. After successive tours on the staffs of COMBATDIV TWO and COMCRULANT, he served as Weapons Officer of USS NORFOLK CDL-11. Captain Walters then served in the Cruiser Destroyer Readiness Branch of the Strike Warfare Division in OPNAV. ln December 1962 he was XO of the com- missioning crew for USS BERKELEY KDDG-151. Following a short course at the Armed Forces Staff College, Captain Walters com- missioned USS BROOKE KDEG-1J as the Com- manding Officer. From April 1, 1967 through November 1968 he served as XO of USS PROVIDENCE KCLG-61 while she was the flagship for Commander Seventh Fleet in the Western Pacific. Captain Walters returned to Washington in early 1969 and became the Program Manager for Anti-Ship Missile Defense in the Naval Ordnance System Com- mand. He comes to BELKNAP following a year of studies at the Air War College at Maxwell AFB, Alabama. Captain Walters is married to the former Diana Moomau of Petersburg, West Virginia. They have two sons, Andy and john, and reside in quarters at Naval Station Norfolk.

Chaplain McHorse was born in San Saba, Texas on May 11, 1931. Having acquired his primary and secondary education in the com- munity, he entered Howard Payne College, Brownwood, Texas graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in August, 1957. He graduated in january 1964 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He was commissioned a LTjg in the U.S. Navy on july 2, 1964 and was sent to the Newport, Rhode Island Chaplain School. He has been deployed to Vietnam twice, first with the 3rd Marine Division and se- cond as Circuit Rider Chaplain for Naval Support Activity, Saigon. Chaplain McHorse is the BELKNAP'S first regularly assigned ship's chaplain and has been onboard for two years. Chaplain McHorse is married to the former Thelma Nell Walker of San Saba, Texas. They have five children, three of whom reside with them in Virginia Beach, Virginia. LCDR. George R. McHorse Chaplain
