What are the qualities possessed by the teacher most admired and respected by his students? First, a thorough knowledge and preparation in the field of teach- ing is necessary, Second, he possesses courage to be a real individual--one who thinks clearly and originally but does not try to mold students to his own opinions. A genuine regard for the individual student and interest in his welfare is another charac- teristic of the exceptional teacher. Highlanders are fortunate in having such teachers. The HIGH? LANDER Staff recognizes these attributes to be especially exemplified by one faculty member in particular. She is one who maintains a friendly atmosphere in the classroom but whose discipline is conducive to a learning situation. She holds a Master's Degree in her teaching field and continues to read widely infields pertinent to her teaching area. Consequently, she conducts, not only an interesting and enjoyable class, but one which is highly stimulating, informative, and one which equips her students with a thorough and lasting knowledge of the subject. Displaying a lively interest in many of our extracurricular activ- ities, she regularly attends our athletic events and school functions, often as sponsor, Credit for much of the success of Senior Week of 1961 goes to her. In recognition and appreciation of her outstanding service, ability, and character, the HIGHLANDER Staff proudly dedicates the 1962 HIGHLANDER to MRS. AUDREY ROLLINS.
