THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL l The Bel Air Elementary School consists of grades one to sevfln, with an enroll- ment of two hundred and seventy-two pupils. l We have three new teachers this year. Miss Nan Webster, who formerly taught at Thomas Run School, is the seventh grade teacher. Mrs. Sue Snrddgrass came from the Forest Hill School to take charge of our fifth grade. Mrs. Slanley T. Holmes, our fourth grade teacher, formerly taught at the Greenwood Schrool. Mrs. May T. Jones was transferred from the fourth to the sixth grade at the beginning of this school year. So you see we had many changes in the teaching forcelof the elementary school this year. Departmental teaching is carried on in the sixth and seventh lrades. Mrs. Jones teaches arithmetic, reading, and Englishg Miss Webster teaches h story, geography, and music. l The pupils of the elementary school participated in two big spring -events-the May Day and the Athletic Meet. l During the past year many new shrubs and bulbs were planted, and new play- ground equipment was purchased. Alumni Hi-Y members met for a grand reunion. The social activities were opened by a Fall Dance spon- sored by the Seniors. OCTOBI-3RfOur new Student Council was given the oath of office. EMBER-We learned of s-ome of the deep, dark secrets harbored by the Federal Agents when wc heard the G-Man from Washington speak. Parents proudly sat in on their children's classes on Open House Day and later attended Armistice Day Assembly. Pupils from far and near came to see Hlulius Caesar assassinated when the Bruce-Hendrickson Company produced the Shakespearan plays on our stage. Book Week was celebrated by the many exhibits in the All English rooms and by an appropriate assembly. the intimate details of a whale's life were revealed in an interesting talk on whaling. Thanksgiving holidays! The memories bring back that enormous turkey which the family tried to get under the belt. The members of the Home Economics Club were put through a mystic and rigorous initiation service. DECEMBER-,lust to keep up the teams' morale we had a pep assembly. The school play was exhibited in part in assembly. After seeing these skits no one could,resist the temptation to come. The senior edition of the Bellarion burst upon us At last! The long awaited school play HChina Boyfl We were surprised to find how easy it was to secure 4'angels for our Christmas Assembly. One of our last memories before we went home for the holidays was the Junior Bellarion. Remember trucking to the Senior Dance? Everyone was allowed to stay home several days to prepare for Santa's visit. Wasn't it fun? The seniors sponsored the Alumni Reception where old friends met. The alumni proved that they can keep up to the pace by defeating the boys' basket- ball team in one of the first games of the season. JANUARYfWC raised our voices in song at the Singing Assembly we had soon after Q our return from the Christmas holidays. 69
