And here's the latest henna rinse, for modern maidens' hair, It's Helen Cooleyis new creation, spreading everywhere. We turn now to the shining lights along the Great White Way- The brightest, we lind are those announcing the seasonls latest pla The players? Couldn't you guess? You've seen them often in Bel John Harris and Mary Holmes they are-a marvel-ous acting pa' Now, on to the Metropolitan, an operais taking place, There's Thomas Greer the tenor, and Edward Peery, the bass, Then Evelyn Magness sings a song as sweetly as a bird, And after -that Virginia Robinson's aria is heard. Well, let's go to the movies now, and there, behind the show, Will be ,Iohn Blackiston, the man who makes the movies go, But letis look at the screen now, and what's the attraction there? Itis Walter Wilson, the hero, with his shining and smooth blond haf And who is the beautiful heroine? An actress of national fame, I-t's Louise Scarff, the May Queen, who has mad-e for herself a nan And the dark, handsome villain, a-twirling his polished and pointed Can be only Adrian St. John, with his usual boldness and dash. The singers fthis is a musical comedy we have gone to seel Are Grace Bailey and Lillian Louch, as pretty as they can beg ir es, Y a Air lr. 7 IC. mustache- And there, the skillful dancer, who taps with motion scarce seenl-? That's Alma Lowe, another star of the glamorous silver screen. Two other friends of '38 we find in Hollywood, too, But they don't act in pictures, as these other people dog Ernestine Ross is the secretary of Cecil B. DeMille, And, working for Robert Taylor, Alma Bachman gets a thri ll. Well, where, oh, where can the rest of '38's secretaries be? V i In Governor Robert Hess's ollice, Evelyn Walls we seeg Ruth McCormick is taking notes from a general tall and lankg And Martha Clark is typing for the president of a bank. fWhat bank? Well, you can guess at that, perhaps you'll have some fun, But Wylie Hopkins is the man for whom the typing's done. Letls look at the daily paper, Here isn't what we sought, DICK HOUSER PUBLIC ENEMY NUMBER ONE, IS NOT YET CAUGHTN- line 3 Lorene Ioines wrote the gripping story beneath this appalling And here is one by Mildred Duff: EXPLOSION IN A MINE , If anyone sees the advertisements, I want that! he wails, For Hannah Hirsch has drawn the pictures, do they get the sales! Say, why are all -these people laughing just as if they'd burst? Prophecy To see the fate of ,38, we need to move about, On magic carpet travel far, and fast go in and out, Let's sail away on some clear day, at any time far hence, 0'er fields Weill fly through azure sky, and whisk through forests dense, Weill soon be whirled throughout the world, see lak-e and hill and dell, So let's ascend and hands extend to earth in fond farewell. The air is filled with zooming craft designed by Clemens Gaines, While, on the ground, itis Robert Harkins who repairs the planes, But they will have a tough, tough time, because so many Hy That they will work, day in, day out, until the day they dieg For Otis Blish and Hubert Monks are looping in the air, And Owen Edwards thrills us now with tricks we wouldnit dare, Dulaney Thomas flies across the field and comes to earth- We can be sure that they're all aviators of great worth- Sayl Who's this woman flyer with the cool, unerring eye? Let's go now to New York, and there we'll travel up and down, Our guide will be Frank Calder, the well-dressed Man-about-town. Some others, too, we fin-d abroad, but they hav-esettled down: Mildred Creenfield's raising tulips in a small Dutch seacoast town. ln Czechoslovakio Henrietta Pouska now does well, With Hitler menacing we hope she stays alive and well. Lucille Bachman's in Mexico, looking for Aztec treasure, Perhaps she'll find a milli-on, and from it get much pleasure. And Mary Ann Schnepfe and Alyce Dennis have reason to be gay, They,ve married army officers and gone to Hawaii to stay. And what will happen to Bel Air High School after we go away? Will it manage to live without us, or crumble and decay? Ah! let your mind be set at ease and your thoughts continue free, For Brodnax Cameron at that time the principal will be. Yes, Mr, Remboldl' the thrilling events of history will tell, And Lee Anna Knight and Alice Greer will teach the grades as well. Marie Keen has coached a girls, champion basketball team, And Martha Worthington, with cheers and pep talks, gives them steam We have two Home Ecw teachers, Eleanor Dietz and Peggy O'Neill S-o now at the cafeteria we can get a splendid meal, And then with Evelyn Rhudy teaching French and English too, We're certain that the weaknesses of our old school are few. For kindergarten pupils, too, of worry there's no need, For Edna Bedsaulis understanding makes them learn with speed. 56
