INYTR UMEN T AL MUSI C Bedfords High School Band was organized in l9l5 by Mr. Burton, with eleven charter members. Leland Armstrong followed Mr. Burton. and formed one of the best and largest bands in the state. ln 1927 Frank Bass was chosen first drum major of Bedford High, heading an organization of 75 members. Miss Bixler and Mr. Reed conducted the band for the next two years. ln l956 the group was voted second best high school marching band in In- diana. Mr. Howard Thomas took over the directorship in l945 and has been leading the group with success up to this time. Drum majorettes were introduced in Bedford High School in 1938 and have been led by a member of the group. This year, however, Ed Cummings has been leading the band and majorettes quite fancifully.
