The ceremony took place under the supervision of Sponsor Helen Chandler. The charter mem- bers are: Delbert Iohnson, Catherine Leahy, Betty Farrell, Tom Richards, Harriett Turner, Carolyn Guthrie, Marilyn Acton, and James Reynolds. Each student is admitted to this club as a result of meri- torious work in high school dramatics. The recognition accorded these students is a high spot in the history of Bedford Hgh School and is held in the pride of achieve- ment that recognition by a national organization confers. The Thespian Banquet, held each year for members and alumnae, serves as a time for initiating new members. Scarlet and Purple, the Bedford High School Dramatic club, originated under the management of Miss Mitchusson. The first year the club worked only on small sketches, but the second year they presented two plays. In 1922 the club presented All at Sea which was directed by Reginald Brinklow. For a few years that is no record of the dramatic club. Operettas were presented by the Glee Clubs. ln 1953 we find the organization presenting A Successful Calamity still under the direction of Miss Mitchusson. From 1940 until 1942 the group was in the hands of Miss Hanson. Mrs. Chandler took the sponsor- ship in 1945 and has had it since that time. A few of the plays presented have been April Showers, Fly Away Home, Dont Take My Penny, Footloose, The Fighting Littles, The Bishop's Mantle, and Line of Scrimmage. The spring play this year, Under Twenty, will be given by a cast from the Scarlet and Purple Club. Seated: Roger Chase, Judy Buck, Sue Payne, Becky May Standing: Nancy Bair, Mrs, Chandler, Carolyn Chastain
