The School Bell The school bell rings its last adieu! We hear it with regret. It means goodbye this passing day, Goodbye, goodbye to those who walk our way— These friends we can’t forget! But listen to this bell! with its deep note, Each hears a different sound. In every heart a separate hope is born, From childhood ties another thread is torn; Each has a challenge found. To some it shouts its message clear, It speaks in ringing tone. “Go forth and win for us acclaim!” To some it whispers without hope of fame, “Seek only peace alone.” Far, far from youths sweet season, now Bathed in golden beams, Someday our thoughts will wander back, Through years and din of war and wordly clack ‘To memories treasured dreams. These things we will remember then— The ringing of the bell, The lessons learned, the games, the cheers, The teachers helping hand, the smiles, the tears; And friends we love so well. Left up your voice in joyous praise As on the chorus sings. It’s just farewell! Oh friend and friend, This is a beginning, it is not the end When the school bell rings. “10
